Writing, playing (guitar, bass - acoustic and electric, drums, keys), recording, mixing, mastering. For twenty years the two of us have been making records as Field Music, doing pretty much everything in-house. We've arranged for strings and brass, written to all sorts of briefs and produced/mixed a bunch of records for other artists too.
While we're still busy making our own records, both solo and as Field Music, we're opening ourselves up to more outside work as producers, players, writers and arrangers. Over the years, we've done a bit of everything so could jump from recording a slick bass-and-drums rhythm track to arranging for a horn section, writing an ear-grabbing middle-eight or finding just the right synth line to make a track come to life and, well, pretty much anything else you can think of (apart from perhaps the shiniest pop or the heaviest metal).
As well as making 11 Field Music albums, we've recorded and released 6 solo albums, and worked as producers or engineers on dozens of records, including collaborating with Maximo Park's Paul Smith (on Frozen By Sight in 2014, and with Rachel Unthank on Nowhere and Everywhere in 2023), with Sarah Hayes (on the You Tell Me album from 2019), and recording tracks for The Futureheads' The Chaos album and Maximo Park's Too Much Information. In addition to mastering our own recordings, David has mastered many albums for other artists for digital, CD and vinyl releases. We work from our own large studio space in Sunderland, UK where we have an extensive collection of gear - Challen upright piano, Yamaha CP70B Electric Grand piano, Roland Juno 60, Fender, Marshall and Vox tube amps and a well-stocked mic locker.
I'd love to hear about your project. Click the 'Contact' button above to get in touch.
