Matthew was great to work with. He had a killer song and knew exactly what he was looking for. He was quick to communicate and a very nice guy. Highly recommend!
Working with Matthew on my album was such a gratifying experience! He has a great capacity for partnering creatively as a producer and songwriter to help you realize your vision, while also expertly managing your project and keeping it on track. Matthew is a delight to work with, professional, and full of great ideas. You'll be in good hands!
I've referred clients to Matthew for electronic/dance remixes of acoustic recordings, and he's always come back with really cool productions on a quick turnaround. I've also consulted with him for info on Canadian grant application procedures. highly recommend.
Interview with Matthew Justin
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What problems would I be solving? Would I be doing tasks you can do but don't have time, or tasks you don't know how to do?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Make sure you have *lots* of work that needs doing. People consistently overestimate this, and/or underestimate the time it will take me to do it.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I graduated from Fanshawe College's Music Industry Arts program in 1998 and have been working at various music-related jobs ever since.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: It's all about the song.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Pop, rock, electronic.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I keep cool and relaxed when the pressure is on. One time, after months of incompetence with the bank of a record label I worked at, I was tearing the bank a new one by phone when the label owner walked in. He said afterward "wow - they must have been REALLY incompetent if Matthew's angry!"
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I typically work with artists, managers or small labels to help them get their administrative house in order. This can be anything from career and strategic planning to social media, bookkeeping to negotiating contracts.
