Young Male Session Singer and Writer with warm, rich sound that's easy on your wallet!
Hi, all! My name is Chris, and I've been a committed choral singer for 10 years, but singing my whole life. I've had professional voice classical voice lessons for 4 years at the University of Redlands, where I practiced classical, theatre, and choral singing, which I have also applied to folk and jazz singing in my own time. My voice type works well with many genres, generally anything that isn't a loud or avant-garde genre. I'm new to the game, but I'm good at what I do and respect what you're trying to do. I am an intermediate folk guitarist who can provide chord and fingerstyle accompaniment. In addition, I've taken classes in songwriting and write lyrics every day which I'd be happy to share with you.

Interview with Chris Schnalzer
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: In University I performed two hour-long performances of classical music, which required an abundance of prep, memorization, and coaching to perform well.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: If you're relying on me to mix and produce my vocals well, I may need some help with that. I can get clean takes with a solid microphone, but I have pretty rudimentary DAW experience.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Any artist with solid, non-cliched lyrics that wants to say something.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a solid microphone in an environment with little interference, it gets the job done.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: During university I participated in recording sessions for composers, and recorded myself for choral projects.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I am currently building up a YouTube channel with original and cover songs with guitar but would like to keep that anonymous for personal reasons.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise that I care about your project as much as you do, and do not submit half-assed recordings. I may not be the oldest or most experienced in the game, but I am a musician and artist through and through. I am professional and respectful.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I just love singing and always have. Honing my craft and knowing that nothing is impossible musically inspires me so much.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Singers are often accused of being naturally talented, and this is very rarely the case. There is so much to learn about the craft that many people underestimate; the greatest singers must train their instrument just like any other musician.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My keyboard, guitar. laptop, mic, and voice box!
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I am currently student teaching with hopes to become a music/ensemble teacher, but that is more of day job. I want to continue to advance as a musician in any way I can. I want to be a well-rounded musician and continue to improve.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I would say calm and deliberate. I love any kind of singing as long as it doesn't involve being really loud or overly embellished, I really like conveying great poetry.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Less is more, at least, to an extent. Music doesn't need to be super complex or difficult to be good, it just has to fulfill the artist's vision as closely as possible.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: With my proficiency in piano and guitar, I enjoy singing along to folk, jazz, theater, and pop music, pretty much any song that I enjoy. I practiced classical music a lot in university and enjoy a good bit of that in my free time as well.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Due to my classical training, I would say my musicianship; I have been told I am an intelligent singer. I have a good sense of time, enunciate well, know how to phrase, and generally do not have many holes in my technique.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring a rich, warm sound to a song, a very friendly sound I'd say. I convey lyrics well and have a controlled and steady technique.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I typically work on a project for a week before recording, then record takes for a solid hour or two the next week. Any more time and I will lose focus of what I am singing.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I would say Laufey and Ichiko Aoba. Two beautiful female voices with a stripped back and elegant sound. Their craft is easy to understand but hard to master, making for music that's complex in its simplicity. Production wise I am no wizard but know good microphone technique and am diligent in getting a great take.
