Interview with Bastereon
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: My skills in mixing and mastering and obviously in my musical career.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: At the moment, no.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital. Simply because I am familiar with it.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I will finish what I do, and when I do, the work will sound very good to you.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: The fact that I love making music and that I can get something in return.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: They usually don't ask many questions...
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Overthinking the process too much.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Do you have an example of what you want to sound like?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Have a clear idea of what you are looking for, take inspiration from things that already exist.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My notebook (assuming it has a lot of battery or recharges with the sun (?), headphones... I don't need ANYTHING else.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have been producing since 2018, I never stopped since then. I learned everything I know from the internet, experimentation and friends who do the same thing as me, no matter what level they have. My artistic career continues to develop and I finally feel like I'm finding the style I like.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Environmental and very emotional, without fear of being completely aggressive.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to work with Skrillex (like almost all of us who make bass music). I simply find his mixing skills and creativity when creating effects completely fascinating.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Hear the mix everywhere, even on your cell phone speaker. Remember that not everyone has your studio headphones!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually work with electronic music / bass music and indie pop (with vocals included)
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I have a very good ear for noticing errors or problems in the mix, whether in volumes, equalization or notes out of tune.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I can give a song a better sound and fill in empty spaces.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I usually ask for payment before I start, and then I do everything I need to do, sending WIPs to my client so they can weigh in on the process.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have good quality headphones (They are quite flat in frequency) and some monitors from 2010 that I am fully accustomed to. I usually work in detail with the headphones and then listen on the monitors for reference, adjusting some volumes.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Skrillex (Tears is AMAZING), Joji, Oliver Tree, Moore Kismet
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
