Every song of mine is a journey through a different landscape of sound. I just love making unique and interesting sounds and rythms progress throughout the whole, see where the song leads me and make that a reality by my own high standards.
Hi there! I'm Maurits, also going by D.scend, and thank you for taking a look at my page!
I just finished my studies at The Producer Academy and want to put all my new knowledge into practice. I can basically do anything from sound selection all the way to mastering(although some more experience won't hurt) but what I get most excited about is Drum and Bass/Breakbeat music. I specialize in my progressive and vivacious sounds and bass, but it wouldn't be a production of mine without endless details in the drums either.
What I can do for you is make a whole song from beginning to end, so it doesn't really matter to me what exactly you want me to do.
Why hire me? Well first of all, I need some more experience so I offer my services for free! Secondly I think I offer an interesting sound. Thirdly I'm easy to work with and lastly, I won't stop working on things unless I'm satisfied with the results.
I hope this gave you some insights in what I can do. Can't wait to hear from you!
Would love to hear from you. Click the contact button above to get in touch.
Interview with D.scend
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: The last project I made in FL studio before I began my studies and switched to Ableton last year. It's my first full song and I just remember it as a whole lot of fun to make, even though I never learnt anything about music really, it just felt right. Making a project completely on intuition like that and seeing where things go as I'm doing them has really shaped the way I make music.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I just finished a big project after a couple of weeks grinding, so now i'm fixing up my old projects that have potential and basically trying new stuff out until I find the next project to really commit to.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital but if I had the gear to go analog I would like to try it
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Not leaving them unsatisfied
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Being creative and free, always learning new things, being able to talk with passion about what it is that I do. Just living the life
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: People assume it's very complicated what I do, but it's just lots of layered simple steps.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: To be honest I don't know, but I would assume it is wise to talk to them before buying a packet to see if they are trustworthy, and maybe give the newbies a chance? *Wink wink*
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My pc, solar panels, the fattest 8 channel speaker setup I could get my hands on before I leave, my dj controller and midi keyboard
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started making music in october 2021, bought a pc with FL studio exclusively for making music. I've been teaching myself ever since, until I came across the Producer Academy, which I attended last year. I switched to Ableton Live, I graduated, and now it's back to teaching myself again. I've basically been learning about new techniques and practicing every single day since I started and I'm not planning to stop improving ever.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I feel like I'm still quite flexible, one day I make something very chill while the next project gets all dark and moody and the next after that sounds very happy, et cetera et cetera.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Tom Finster, I've become a huge fan of his genre-bending work as of this year, I just can't get enough of it. I think I could learn so much from him and I could definitely lay down ideas that bounce off of each other to become an amazing end result.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Just one? In my last project automations played a big role, you can make very interesting textures and earcandy with just a grain delay and some pitch automation.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: DRUM AND BASS, love that sh**
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My endless creativity in regard to melodic progressions, rather than repeat the same 3 or 4 chords throughout the whole song I like to keep building to an epic climax instead.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Lots of custom synths and textures, also weird sounds, the weirder the better, as long as they fit the cause of course.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I often start with a sample from splice as a basis for my drums, or I make a serum patch for some chords, then after I have a few layers I start with the structure of the song and build towards the drop. I really like going with the flow in my productions so I can always drop elements that I'm not sure about along the way or change them up. I also don't like second drops that are just repeats of the first one so I'll do/try anything to make it feel special and distinct from the first one, all so the whole sounds like I took you on a journey
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: It's really nothing special(yet), but I'm working on it, I feel comfortable with what I have now so it doesn't hold me back in any way.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I got inspired to start making music because of Camo & Krooked, but along the way many more DJ's and artists like The Upbeats, Tom Finster, IMANU, Bensley, Misanthrop and Urbandawn became huge inspirations for me. Now this is pretty much only inside Drum and Bass or Breakbeat in general but what can I say, I'm just a huge fan of the genre.
I work until we're both satisfied with the results, if after that you still want something changed come to me with a clear explanation of what it is and we can look again to change it.
Because I need some more experience I'm doing everything for free as long as you tell your friends about my work if you like it.
