Nicky Phillips on SoundBetter

I am a professional singer-songwriter based in Manchester, UK. Over 10 years of performing/recording experience. I specialise in pop & folk vocals, but having been trained in different styles I have a versatile voice suited to many genres.

My qualifications include a Bachelor’s (Hons) Degree in Music specialising in Vocals (classical and pop); this was followed by a PGCE with Specialist Vocal Teaching from the Royal Northern College of Music and Manchester Metropolitan University.

I have a wide vocal range with many tones to my voice, suiting anything from a soft and intimate folk song to a bold and powerful pop ballad. I am strong in lead vocals as well as harmonising or providing backing vocals – I’m sure I can help you achieve what you’re looking for with your project! I have a home recording studio, meaning I am able to work to tight deadlines.

  10. A: I'm currently working remotely with a Canadian producer (Joel Schwartz) on some singles/an EP due for release early next year.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I love using my voice, it's everything to me. Bringing an idea to life in a tangible way that speaks to someone else's mind or heart.

  13. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  14. A: I started singing lessons at a young age and went through the ABRSM/Trinity College singing grades. I then went on to study Music at degree level where I specialised in classical music vocal performance for the first two years and then pop vocal performance and songwriting for my final year. This set me on a path of performing, recording and collaborating in the acoustic music scene. I then went on to qualify for a place on a Specialist Vocal Teaching PGCE (Teaching Diploma) where I studied peripatetic and choral teaching at the Royal Northern College of Music, from this I went on to teach singing lessons and lead choirs. I have been singing for almost two decades and I continue to write songs, perform, record and release music.

  15. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  16. A: I bring authenticity to the message behind the song. I match the style and atmosphere that is wanted by the client. I can sing from an intimate whisper to a heart-wrenching belt. I can provide vocal acrobatics or simplicity. My voice is adaptable to the needs of the song and project.
