Genre agile music engineer, mixer and producer with a forte in aggressive rock and metal, and alternative rock and pop. I love the contrast between death metal and synth pop and have the ability to work in both.
I am a music producer and mixer based out of my home studio in North Carolina. I have over 30 years of experience in many different audio fields. My main focus though is music mixing and production. Rock, metal, synth pop, pop rock, alternative, riff-rock, aggressive rock and not-so aggressive rock, but mostly rock bands. I've worked on numerous record label projects as well as with many local/regional independent artists.

Endorse Tracey SchroederI have known and worked with Tracey on different musical projects for 30 years. He has currently mixed 3 LP's for myself and my band bed signs in the last 2 years. Tracey is awesome to work with, very knowledgable and has a keen ear for detail. He always tries to get the sound the artist is looking for while making (usually great) suggestions as well. I would highly recommend Tracey if you are looking for a vastly experienced mixer and engineer who is willing to give 100% to whatever artist he is working with, big or small.
Interview with Tracey Schroeder
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Mixing at low volumes can be a good thing!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Aggressive rock and metal.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I am very easy to work with. I am here to serve the song and the client but I will definitely speak my mind as well.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I try to make sure the song and the mix have energy, excitement and momentum! Some of that is in the arrangement, but some is in the mix.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Typically I receive tracks from the artist/producer and bring them into Pro Tools. I sort out the tracks and organize them to my liking. Then I just start mixing. I find that the mix is always there, I just need to find it. Most of the time I start by playing the tracks while making minor volume adjustments until I think I know where the mix wants me to go, then start digging in on individual tracks for processing and effects.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My mix studio is a spare room in my house. I have gone to great effort to have great monitoring and professional gear and plug-ins. I work in a hybrid setup utilizing Pro Tools Ultimate and SSL A/D & D/A, summing through an analog SSL X-Desk. I consulted with an acoustician to optimize the space and the acoustic treatment. I believe it sounds great in my room. While I can't record a whole band at home, I can do some overdubs, like vocals, percussion, acoustic guitars and some electric guitar.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I am a fan of Andrew Scheps, Kurt Ballou, Spot, Tchad Blake & Greg Fidelman as producer/mixers, and I am pretty open as to musical taste. If something catches my ear, it doesn't mater the style. Having said that, I tend to work best in aggressive rock and metal as well as dreamy synth pop. Go figure!
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I primarily mix, but for local artists (Charlotte, NC and surrounding area) I can work in any studio you wish for recording then take the tracks to my home studio to mix.
