I can produce songs, write lyrics, or provide vocal/instrumental leads and accompaniment for your projects. I've produced four complete albums in a 70s alt/prog rock style as well as multiple singles. Even though I predominantly produce in this style, I am versatile and adapt to new challenges quickly. Your vision and satisfaction, my #1 priority
Hello! I'm a young musician/writer passionate about creating and playing awesome music! I've loved music for as long as I can remember. While my production has centered around specific niche genres, to create something familiar but fresh, I am a very versatile vocalist. Anything from show tunes, opera, classical, musicals, you name it and I can sing it. My favorite genre to sing is classic rock though. The whole reason I got into music production was so I could have original music to perform. While I love all of my musical influences I wanted to develop a vocal style that reflected me and my own personal connection to them.
I started around the time COVID hit, so I couldn't really find other musicians to connect with. Being a painfully introverted person didn't help either. Despite these setbacks, I decided to take on the challenge of writing and producing an album. I learned all the instruments that go in the usual rock ensemble, guitar, bass, keys, as well as crafting drum parts from scratch in a DAW. I also learned (still a work in progress) to mix and master my own tracks. I wanted my musical project to showcase a creative evolution of skill and technical prowess as well as artistry and creativity. This has been a highly rewarding journey with a steep learning curve. Lately, I've been experimenting more with videography and filming myself singing to create a persona

Wow, I was so impressed with Nikki's efficiency. He responded to my initial request and provided a first take AND a revised take, all in under 24 hours. He was careful to address my specific requests in the revision, and I was very pleased. I'll work with him again!
Interview with Nikki Franklyn
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: If they aren't initially impressed by the work that I showcase, they usually ask for examples of things that fall more in line with what they're looking for. My response is that while I'm flexible and willing to work with you, I can't be a perfect copy of someone else. That is just the nature of creative work.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Computer, Screen, Monitors, Audio interface, Midi Keyboard.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: Indie music producer and performer. Been pursuing that for about 3-4 years
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: All the ones I'd want to work with are dead so......:P
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I've been working a bit with Rzn8str to get a new remote band up and running. As of now I've sung 3 songs that are coming out soon and I will be the lead vocalist going forward.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I have a very large selection of songs so I'm focusing on filming myself singing them or learning to play the different parts in real time. Developing a stage presence and or a persona/character to be the face of my music. Ratcheting back from producing with the exception of paid gigs.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Rzn8str: Very easy to work with and has a very unique style.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital, not because it's better per se, but for the sake of practicality.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I am willing and able to work with you to get your particular vision and sound just how you imagined it, or as close as I'm able to. I'm very responsive and communicative and customer satisfaction makes me happy.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Doing something I love
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That it's easy for me because of talent or fate or some other extrinsic circumstantial nonsense. Anyone can do what I do, you just have to put in the time.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What is the scope of your project? Do you just need a part recorded? Or do you need a fully-produced song with suggestions about creative direction?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Be as specific as you can about what you want out of the project. Keep in mind though that we can only ever sound like ourselves even though we will try to get it to sound exactly how you'd like. Familiarize yourself first with the existing work of whoever you hire. Chances are that is what you'll be paying for.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Eclectic yet still within the confines of specific genre parameters. I like to combine different styles to make something new.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Just get in the studio and start working. Doesn't matter if it sounds terrible, the more you push through that feeling the better you'll get.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: 70s style alt/prog Rock.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I'm mainly a singer/songwriter, but I have many other skills that I'm proficient in.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Myself.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Thorough.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Minimalist but it gets the job done.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Mostly British Musicians of the mid to late 70s.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Usually, someone just needs me to sing their song for them.
