I was a little kid when underground rock was born in the deep 1980’s. All I wanted to do was make records. As I grew up, I watched MTV rocket up and die before I finally got to record. I wanted to make junky early sub pop style records, quick and fun, loose and nasty with tons of human element. But it was impossible. Every engineer sounded the same: popcorn sampled drums, annoyingly tuned vocals, amp sims, grinding loudness that hurt. I couldn’t make my dream record, nobody had the skills to do it anymore. So I set out to learn how on my own.

I spent many years spinning my wheels until finally, I began to know more about the analog tape years than most anyone my age. And I started to incorporate it into my recording. At the same time I built up my producer skills. I started to study every genre, and realized you can’t be an EDM producer and make a real Pink Floyd album. But you *can* be a Pink Floyd producer and make EDM. Once the skills of analog recording and mixing are built, it makes digital production very possible. Understanding musicality and vibe, it crosses genres.

I enjoy underground analog sound. It’s like impressionist painting, the feeling is part of it. But it’s not my only game. I know what people like, and it’s not 1985. It’s Demi Lovato, The Weeknd, etc, and they require it. I have my own unique way of delivering it, while staying true to me: Different.
