Aleksei Hov on SoundBetter

My mission is to translate your ideas into high quality sound, find your uniqueness and show it off in a favorable way. Work with genres: pop, edm, hip-hop, etc.

A little bit about me. My name is Alexey, I've been writing music and mixing for over 12 years. During this time I managed to work with big companies (Coca-Cola, Doritos, Avon) and local independent artists.

What I can do:
- Create music from scratch around your idea (rough tune or demo which you record on smartphone)
- Redesigning/remixing or improving the sound of your song
- Mixing and mastering (including vocals)

According to my clients - I am good at understanding what sound they want to achieve and often hit the target on the first try.

I'd love to hear about your project. Click the 'Contact' button above to get in touch.

Interview with Aleksei Hov

  1. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  2. A: That music production/engineering is easy

  3. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  4. A: Depends on the requested service, but anything to make sure I understand the vision.

  5. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  6. A: I would advise an open communication and a precise description of the work that you would like for me to do. Find someone that respects your vision and can relate to your ideas.

  7. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  8. A: MacBook Pro ofc, Sennheiser 600HD, Apollo UADX6, AKAI MPK mini and ukulele is probably the only thing that would really work on a desert island)

  9. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  10. A: I started making music in 2007. At that time I was young and had my own HIP HOP band. I started writing music for our band, then I started developing and writing music for other clients. What I do to this day. Over this long journey I have found my sound and honed my mastering and mixing skills.

  11. Q: How would you describe your style?

  12. A: Storytelling creative music. Very clean while atmospheric and emotional.

  13. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  14. A: I would love to work with DIPLO, his musical genius has followed me trough many years and I believe he would teach me valuable skills

  15. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  16. A: Don't be afraid to try things you don't know. Always stay adventurous and expand the possibilities. Trust your ears first, analyze after. If it works (if the music makes you feel), it doesn't matter if it fits into traditional notions and “unspoken” rules and standards or not

  17. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  18. A: Most of my work can be considered to popular commercial music, like Rick Rubin, Max Martin, Ryan Tedder.

  19. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  20. A: My strong point is that I worked in a creative agency. I created advertising for global clients, so I can bring creativity and uniqueness to your track.

  21. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  22. A: I have to make sure that the song sounds on par with the world's top hits and reflects the original idea and character of the artist. Important point: the production must also contain catchy elements that will make the track stand out from the works of other authors and add uniqueness to it

  23. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  24. A: Music production and mixing.

  25. Q: What's your typical work process?

  26. A: Making sure the goals of those I work with are aligned. Know their style, taste and direction. Ensure that the goals of those I work with are the same. Know their style, taste and direction. Work and experience will do the rest. I try not to overload the music with lots of different instruments. It's much better to make the song start sounding great with a minimal amount of sounds (5-7 basic layers). After that you can add a variety of sounds according to the client's wishes.

  27. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  28. A: I've got an acoustically treated studio, build to provide a space for what I do best; recording, editing and mixing. What I use on the daily: Logic Pro 11, MacBook Pro M1, Sennheiser 600HD, Neumann 120KH, Yamaha HS7, Beyerdynamics DT700Pro, Apollo UADX6

  29. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  30. A: I'm inspired by artists like Rick Rubin, Diplo, Max Martin, Ryan Tedder, Kanye West
