Luka Kopunovic on SoundBetter

Indie producer working out of my studio in Toronto. My alias 'Flowerboy' has totalled 5+ million streams in the last two years. I love crunchy guitars and putting sad/happy songs together. I'm a multi-instrumentalist that can put a whole band behind your voice.

I grew up playing piano in the Royal Conservatory of Music and learned guitar from being obsessed with Guitar Hero 3. I started working in Logic Pro and FL Studio in my teenage years. I love making Indie Pop and Hip-hop. My past releases made me part of Spotify's Fresh Finds class of 2021. My production style blends the authenticity of indie music with the infectious hooks of pop, resulting in tracks that are introspective, nostalgic and irresistibly catchy. If you're looking for a fresh soundscape and an easy collaborator, hit me up!

AMAZING! He was very accommodating and wanted to make sure that the product was how I wanted it. Had 2 songs produced with him from scratch, and I definitely plan on doing more with him in the future.

Luka is such a pleasure to work with. He is so professional and friendly at the same time, always willing to help with artistic direction in addition to his quality production skills. Its rare to find someone who can do both. If you want someone who is really on your team, this is your person!

I have worked in music for over 9 years now. I have collaborated with Luka for over a year now and I can say he truly does have an ear for music. His stylistic choice when choosing instruments, hooks, and lyrics creates very catchy songs that are instant hits.

As an artist, I've had the pleasure of working with Luka on several projects. His expertise as a mix engineer and producer are top notch. We’ve worked across genres, on an indie rock record, a pop record, and a hip-hop record. No matter the musical style, everything Luka touches significantly elevates in quality. If you're looking for top-tier mixing and production services, Luka is a your go to!

Honestly one of the most fluid writing experiences I’ve had with somebody. Came to him with a song idea and within an hour we had a full demo (that honestly could have been released as is). He has a great ear for production and the vibes are always great.

Luka helped me to unlock an entire different side of my creativity I didn’t know I had. He helped me see through ideas that I couldn’t figure out on my own and pushed me to be more confident in my sound. Couldn’t recommend him enough for anything production or engineering related.

Interview with Luka Kopunovic

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I recently released an EP under my alias 'Flowerboy' titled 'I Woke Up Today!'. It feels like me. I did all of the writing, production, performance and mixing on the project.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I'm working on a collaborative alt-rock EP and an indie pop album that is set to release at the top of the new year.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Not yet but I'm excited to build my SoundBetter community!

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Both have their moments. Analog gear will give you that retro feel but digital gear can be manipulated to a higher degree.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I will give you a product that exceeds your expectations. The more information I get the more I can customize it to what you are looking for, so tell me everything. I will be quick and efficient.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I love being able to collaborate with musicians from all corners of the world. Resources like SoundBetter help us all become more worldly.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Can you help me make this sound cleaner and more professional? Yes.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: The complexity! I find that keeping things simple goes a long way.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: What inspired this song? Who do you want to sound like? Do you want to sound like a band or an individual?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: I can be of assistance in any phase of the production. Whether you need someone to create the vibe or polish it, hit me!

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: An acoustic guitar and 4 friends, obviously.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I've been dedicated to music creation since 2018. I love production and mixing but also performance! I hope to travel and let the world hear my music.

  26. A: Fresh, fluid, nostalgic, dreamy and introspective.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Leveling leveling leveling!

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: I work on indie pop and live sounding music. My go-to guitar riffs have a post-punk and punk rock feel.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: My strongest skill is my work rate. I can turn a strong demo idea into a finished product in a matter of hours.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I bring a fresh yet familiar feel to music. A lot of my clients and collaborators describe my sound as nostalgic.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: For a fresh idea, I like to start with a chord progression in a tempo that my client finds comfortable. After a few layers and a light mix, the writing process starts. I prioritize the feeling and emotion of a track.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: My studio has two rooms with a variety of synth, piano and guitar options. I have a drum kit on site to get you that live sound.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: My biggest production inspirations are Mike Dean, Rick Rubin and Pharell Williams.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: A lot of my work involves live music production and band/vocal mixing. I gravitate towards the umbrella of Indie Pop.
