Hip Hop Producer (+subgenres)

mora on SoundBetter

I'm Mora, Hip Hop producer with 8 years of experience and 15,000,000+ streams on Streaming platforms (Lo-Fi hip hop / Boom bap). I also make UK Garage, DnB, House, Plugg, R&B, Reggaeton, and especially Trap subgenres like Cloud rap, Jerk / Hoodtrap, Hyperpop, and Drain beats.

My name is Luis Mora, I am a producer from Buenos Aires, Argentina, and my main strength is beatmaking and offering interesting sounds that people look for when getting immersed in "niche" subgenres such as Hyperpop, Lo-Fi Hip Hop or UK Garage, to name a few, while keeping the result Industry-ready. I always put the artist's vision first, my goal is to enhance it and not to make my idea come through at any cost. I can work from scratch or around an idea/reference that you may have.

Offering writing, co-writing, producing, mixing, editing, and programming of all kinds of songs.

Feel free to contact me for any questions. I’m looking forward to working with you!

Interview with mora

  1. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  2. A: Both, I believe the focus should be on the result and not the means.

  3. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  4. A: I will do everything I can to make sure you're happy with the result.

  5. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  6. A: Do you have a reference track? A specific type of sound you want to achieve? If not, I'd ask the client the vibe he or she is going for (if the track should be slow or fast), the mood (happy, sad, melancholic, etc.), the emotion he or she is trying to evoke, etc.

  7. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  8. A: Try to find out what he brings to the table creativity wise, because there are a lot of producers who can provide a "x type beat" and a lot of producers who can mix your song to make it sound better, but it's good to hire someone who can actually give you some insight or opinions you can rely on so as to improve the final outcome of the track.

  9. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  10. A: Laptop, headphones, audio interface, microphone, studio monitors.

  11. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  12. A: I started making loops, recording demos, and studying music production 10+ years ago or so, but I started releasing music of my own on 01/01/2016 and haven't stopped ever since. My first steps were uploading beats to soundcloud and connecting with producers I admired but the next few years, when I started uploading my music to streaming platforms, I began to be able to make a living off of music. That helped me invest in equipment and time in order to be where I am at now.

  13. Q: How would you describe your style?

  14. A: I think the best way to describe my style would be experimental yet clean.

  15. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  16. A: Kanye West would be the absolute goal because he is always doing something new and exciting, nothing he does feels "obsolete", and that's what I aim to achieve with my own productions.

  17. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  18. A: Don't overthink, sometimes you come up with a great idea in a matter of seconds and you tend to modify it just because you feel you haven't spent enough time on it. Don't get me wrong, that doesn't mean you have to stick to the first take at all, but sometimes it's good to know that not every idea has to take you all the time in the world to perfect it.

  19. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  20. A: I usually work on everything Hip Hop related, not only subgenres but also similar styles such as R&B, House, Drum and Bass, etc.

  21. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  22. A: I think my strongest skill is to be both versatile and knowledgeable in different genres or subgenres at the same time. I really like to dive deep into the details of every style of music I dwell into, in order to be as genuine as possible.

  23. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  24. A: I bring unique elements to your idea in order to enhance it as much as possible. I try to go out of my way to help you reach your vision in the best way I possibly can.

  25. Q: What's your typical work process?

  26. A: It depends on the genre (and the client, of course), but most of the time I start with chords and melodies and then I add the rest of the elements. Sometimes I start from scratch and sometimes I work around a preexisting idea.

  27. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  28. A: I use FL Studio, I also have Pro Tools but I mainly use it as an effect when I'm doing varispeed vocals or things like that. I use Audio Technica headphones and JBL studio monitors. Most of my production is made on a MIDI keyboard but I also incorporate sounds from the Microkorg MK1 and the Pocket Operator-33 K.O. Last but not least, I use the best software as well (Waves, Kontakt, Ozone, Omnisphere, Melodyne, Serum, etc.)

  29. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  30. A: There are too many, but I'd say my main inspiration is Kanye West, even though I draw things from all kinds of artists and producers from all over the world and several different genres, for example: Drain gang, Bon Iver, Saramalacara, TOKYOPILL, etc.

  31. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  32. A: I usually get a reference track or an idea from a client and build a beat around it. We go back and forth until we reach the desired goal.
