Interview with Elias Garcia

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I'm especially proud of the latest song I produced, mixed, and mastered for Gabriela Montemayor. Additionally, I'm excited about my current projects: a new song for Gabriela and a project with an emerging artist. These projects highlight my ability to blend creativity with technical skills, and I'm thrilled to see them come to life.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: At the moment, I'm working on a new song for Gabriela Montemayor and a project with an emerging artist. Both projects are exciting opportunities to create unique and impactful music

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: I don't personally know anyone on SoundBetter yet, but I recommend exploring the profiles and reviews to find someone who aligns with your project’s needs and vision.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: I appreciate both analog and digital tools, but I lean towards analog for its warmth and depth. Analog gear often adds a unique character and richness to the sound that’s hard to replicate digitally, though I value the precision and flexibility of digital tools for their efficiency and convenience.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: My promise is to bring your vision to life with creativity, precision, and alignment with your values, ensuring a final product that exceeds your expectations.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: What I like most about my job is the opportunity to blend creativity with technical skill while aligning with the artist’s vision and God's purpose. It’s fulfilling to see how music can deeply resonate with people and make a meaningful impact.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Customers often ask how I ensure their vision is realized and how long it will take. My answer is: I listen closely to their goals, ensure everything flows naturally, and integrate my skills with their artistic and spiritual needs. Timely and aligned delivery is key.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: A common misconception is that music production is purely technical. In reality, it’s also about capturing and aligning with the artist’s vision and God’s purpose to create music that resonates deeply.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: I ask prospective clients about their vision for the project and how they believe it aligns with God's purpose. Understanding their artistic goals and spiritual direction helps me ensure that the final product resonates deeply with both their personal message and their audience.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: For the best results, clearly share your vision and goals with me. Providing demos or references helps me understand your sound, and my blend of technical skill and creative insight, guided by my commitment to aligning with God's vision, will ensure your project exceeds expectations

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Novation Launchkey 61 - For MIDI control and making music. PreSonus 1824C audio interface - Essential for recording and playback. Taylor 322e 12-fret guitar - For its rich tones and versatility. Audio-Technica M30x headphones - For accurate monitoring. Blue Blackout Spark microphone - For high-quality vocal recordings.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I have been formally working in music production and mixing for the past 2 years, though I began my journey in the field 8 years ago, starting with personal projects. Over time, I have honed my skills and expanded my expertise in both pop and worship music.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: My style blends creativity with technical precision, focusing on capturing the emotional and soulful essence of each song. I emphasize contemporary worship and pop elements, aiming to enhance the artist’s vision while delivering polished and impactful music.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I’d love to work with Majo y Dan. Their local impact and vision are inspiring, and collaborating with them would be a great way to contribute to our community’s musical landscape.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Start with a strong foundation by focusing on solid rhythms and chord progressions. This will create a solid base for your track and help you build and layer other elements more effectively.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: I typically work on pop and worship music. In pop, I focus on creating catchy, polished tracks that resonate with a broad audience. For worship music, I aim to capture and enhance the spiritual and emotional aspects of the songs, ensuring they align with the artist's vision and message of faith.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: My strongest skill is my ability to blend creativity with technical expertise to produce and mix music that truly reflects the artist's vision. I excel at understanding and aligning with the vision God has given the artist, ensuring that every song is crafted with attention to detail and emotional depth. Whether in production or mixing, I bring a combination of artistic intuition and precise technical skills to deliver a polished and impactful final product.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I bring a deep understanding of both musical and technical aspects to a song, combining creativity with precision. My goal is to enhance the artist's vision while ensuring that every element of the track is polished and professional. I focus on capturing the emotional essence of the song and delivering a final product that resonates deeply with listeners and aligns with the artist's intended message

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: For production work, I start by understanding the vision that God has given the artist, ensuring that everything aligns with His will. I review the demo and any references provided, create a draft to show progress, and then proceed to record the final elements. For mixing, I request WAV files, preferably without gain staging, and use my pre-designed mixing template to streamline the process, all while keeping the focus on aligning with God's purpose for the project.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: My studio setup includes a PreSonus 1824C audio interface, which provides high-quality audio conversion and ample connectivity. I use the DBX 266 XL for dynamic processing and the Universal Audio 710 Twin-Finity for versatile preamp options. For keyboards, I have the Nord Stage 3, known for its exceptional sound quality and flexibility, and a Novation Launchkey 61 MIDI controller for seamless integration with Ableton, my primary DAW. My guitar collection includes a Baby Taylor and a Taylor 322e 12-fret, both of which deliver rich tones. I also rely on the PreSonus Eris 3.5 studio monitors for accurate and detailed sound reproduction.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I'm inspired by artists like Majo y Dan, Un Corazón, Elevation Worship, and Maverick City. Their ability to blend powerful lyrics with immersive musical experiences that glorify God motivates me to create productions that not only resonate deeply with listeners but also elevate the message of faith and worship.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: The most common type of work I do for my clients includes mixing, music production, and recording sessions. I focus on delivering high-quality mixes and productions that capture the artist's vision, ensuring professional sound and attention to detail in every project.
