Drummer with Hamilton, Netflix's animated hit Vivo, composer for podcast themes. Tons of international touring, remote recording, writer for EQ Magazine and DRUM! Magazine as their drum recording expert. Lover of diverse styles of music. Chart reading friendly, but also know how to build a drum part from vague adjectives. 20yrs owning a studio.
Happy to provide drum tracks for your songs! Let's do this! Bass tracks, mixing, and producing also available. Come record drums with someone that really gets songwriting, engineering, and drumming. The song comes first!
Jake's musical journey began with drums, and to this day they are very much his primary instrument. Along the way he picked up other various instruments including bass, keys, spoons, and uke, and began writing his own songs under the alias Business Crass. The art of songwriting continues to heavily influence his drumming, and as such, his ability to play for the song continues to grow.
His career has taken him to top-tier studios, like Skywalker Ranch and Hyde St Studios, as well as legendary venues and festivals like the Fillmore, the Kennedy Center, Outside Lands, and many others. He recently built his own studio, Narwhaldo's Sound Palace, from the ground up, featuring a fantastic selection of mics, preamps, and drums.
Jake happily tours the US, Europe, and Asia, leading a peripatetic life that is grounded in an extremely rewarding teaching practice back home. He plays with Hamilton: An American Musical, Diego’s Umbrella, and MarchFourth!. He has also been a regular contributor to DRUM! Magazine and EQ Magazine.
In his spare time, Jake likes to ride his bicycle, play ukulele, and craft some of the world’s worst puns.
