Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: We have some really exciting projects in the works but a lot of these projects haven't been announced by the artists to the public yet so I better be careful about what I put out there! As a producer it's just safer if I stay quiet. Taylor Mathews is about to drop an amazing EP. We are very proud to have worked on that.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Taylor Mathews. Great singer and amazing songwriter. He's actually the one that recommended SoundBetter to us.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Super proud of what we did with Maude. Our first single hit #1 in France and charted top ten in a bunch of great countries. That will always be a project close to my heart.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I'm 100% all about the hybrid. They both have incredible advantages and personalities. Why not combine the two
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: To give them content they can actually use. We don't want to waste anybody's time. Let's just focus on getting the job done so you can complete your overall mission.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: We get to make music for a living and occasionally we get to see hundreds of thousands or even millions of people enjoy what we made. It's the best feeling in the world.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: If we can turn up the bass...no...the answer is no....just kidding!
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Art is subjective so don't worry about hurting our feelings. Be blunt about what you want. Let's just get it right.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: All I need is a guitar. Maybe a female vocalist....you know...for "vocals"
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: I'm happy to share any technical tips with anybody who wants to reach out about specific subjects but in general...Don't worry about the rules. Just make stuff that makes you feel GREAT.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: pop, pop rock and even blues and country. We also do a lot of soundtrack style work for TV & Film.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Seeing big projects through! It seems like a simple concept but you'd be surprised how many projects turn to mush after a producer gets overwhelmed.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I think a lot of producers sit down to a lap top and make beats these days. Really anybody with a laptop can start producing and I think that's great but we are proud to bring a full studio with live instruments back into that process. Having a guitar, a bass, live drums...whatever it is, mixed in with modern sounds and samples...that's the way to go if you have the tools and players to pull it off.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Different every time
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Can I upload photos?
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Personally I like Rick Rubin cause he can jump from genre to genre and totally kill it every time. He always adapts to the project he's facing. We are faced with different genres every day from TV/film projects to full bands and even electronic pop projects. We know what it's like to genre hop.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Typically we are involved from the writing process all the way through fully producing, mixing and mastering of each song. This goes for both independent and major label clients. We play almost every instrument and have a ton of great gear so it's not uncommon for us to get hired to do specific instruments, one off tracks, vocals or mixing & mastering. We have the bases covered here.
