Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: To leave my ego out of the process. We're here to do what's best for the song and the artist.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That I'll be changing the essence of the song. I'm only here to enhance and bring it to it's fullest potential. If you're hiring me to work on your song you already like what you have. I'm here to make sure it has the impact it needs to stand out in the right ways.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I graduated college back in 2015 and have been doing recording and mixing work ever since. I've been lucky enough to work on songs that have generated hundreds of millions of streams. I'm super grateful for that. I've recently been doing immersive mixing which has been a fun challenge. It truly shows that you can never stop learning in this field.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I work on a lot of rap, afro beats and Caribbean music.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My ability to interpret an artists vision is probably my strongest skill. I believe mixing is a collaborative process. Sometimes we get it right on the first mix pass but I think being able to receive revision notes and executing them properly makes a huge difference for the artist. In the end the mix has to reflect to vision that the artist intended.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring a fresh perspective to your music. Not so much to change the "DNA" but to find places where it can be enhanced and make sure everything is in the correct pocket.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Get everything right at the source. If you're a vocalist or instrumentalist make sure you record the best vocals possible. If you are a music producer or composer, get the best possible quality sounds. This will set your project up to sound great from the beginning. Technology can fix a lot of mistakes and patch up lots of problems but there's a noticeable difference when your components sound right and nothing had to be fixed or hidden. Your music will thank you.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My typical process starts with a call, I like to discuss the track with the artist or producer. This gives me a chance to really understand the direction they want me to take the track. It's also a great opportunity to see if there are any song's they'd like for me to reference before starting the mix. Once I receive files I mix the song and send it back, once it's approved I export all necessary edit's to send to the client.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: The most common work I do is mixing. I get most of my work from producers so I'm usually lucky enough to have access to the separate instrumental tracks as well as vocals. Not being tied to a 2-track instrumental allows me to really get detailed with my mix.
