Working with Fernando was a great experience. He really listened to what I wanted and took the time to understand the vibe of the song. The final mix and master sounded warm, clear, and full of depth. You can really hear the analog touch and attention to detail. Communication was easy, the process was smooth, and he made sure everything felt right before delivering. I’m honestly very happy with the result and would definitely work with him again.

Interview with That Pro Mix

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I mastered the full album Melancholia by Juno Francis, and I’m very proud of how it turned out. The project had a rich emotional atmosphere, and the analog chain helped bring depth, warmth, and clarity to the final sound.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I’m currently mixing and mastering projects for several artists, each with their own unique sound and story. I’m grateful to be part of their creative process.

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: Hybrid—but my heart is in analog. Hardware brings warmth, depth, and musical color, while digital gives precision and flexibility. Together, they create the perfect balance.

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: I promise professional, emotionally driven mixes and masters, clear communication, and a collaborative process focused entirely on your artistic vision. I work until the track sounds its best—musical, dynamic, and true to the emotion of the song.

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: Hearing a new song and immediately imagining the creative approach for the mix. And of course, connecting with talented artists along the way.

  11. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  12. A: Question: “Can you match the exact sound of my reference track?” Answer: “I can get your track headed in the same direction—similar tone, energy, and emotion. But every song has its own personality, so my goal is to capture the feeling you want while preserving what makes your music unique.”

  13. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  14. A: That everything can be fixed in post. The better the recording and performance, the better—and more musical—the final result will be.

  15. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  16. A: I ask for references, the emotional direction they want, what the main focal point of the song should be, what they like in their rough mix, and what they’d prefer to change.

  17. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  18. A: Have clear sonic references, communicate your vision openly, and make sure your stems are organized and properly exported. It makes a huge difference in the final result.

  19. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  20. A: My two Manleys, the FATSO, the Dangerous Music AD+, and my two Distressors.

  21. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  22. A: I’ve been mixing for over 15 years. I started by learning in a studio, continued studying audio professionally, and later completed a degree in musicology at Humboldt University in Berlin. Since 2018 I’ve been working independently, but music has been part of my life since childhood.

  23. Q: How would you describe your style?

  24. A: Warm, musical, elegant, and full of texture.

  25. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  26. A: There are too many, but I’d love to work with artists like John Mayer or The 1975. musicians whose productions leave space for warmth, texture, and emotional depth, which aligns perfectly with my hybrid analog style.

  27. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  28. A: Music works like a conversation: when one person speaks at a time, the message is clear. In a mix, having a defined focal point creates impact. Supporting elements matter, but clarity comes from choosing what should speak the loudest emotionally.

  29. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  30. A: Pop, Pop/Rock, R&B, Indie Pop, Electronic, and Singer-Songwriter.

  31. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  32. A: Drum mixing and creating radio-ready mixes that hit hard without sounding crushed. I love adding rich musical color and texture (my FATSO is often the secret weapon)

  33. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  34. A: Analog warmth, a natural but character-rich sound, emotional impact, attention to detail, and dynamic mixes that evolve with the song’s structure.

  35. Q: What's your typical work process?

  36. A: I start by organizing all the tracks and shaping the core elements. If it’s a vocal-driven song, I begin by crafting a stable, expressive vocal sound and build the rest around it. I mix hybrid, sending the most important elements through analog gear for warmth, depth, and character. Once the mix is in a strong place, I let it rest and revisit it the next day with fresh ears to confirm balance, impact, and emotion.

  37. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  38. A: My studio is a fully treated space built around a hybrid workflow. I mix and master through a high-end analog chain that includes the Manley Vari-Mu Mastering Compressor, FATSO, Manley Massive Passive, Tube-Tech SMC 2B, Distressors, multiple 1176s, an LA-2A, the SSL Fusion, and a Universal Audio Apollo. For mastering, I work fully analog and capture through the Dangerous Music AD+. I use Cubase as my main DAW.

  39. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  40. A: I’m inspired by engineers and mixers like Michael Brauer, Chris Lord-Alge, Jaycen Joshua, and Dave Pensado.

  41. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  42. A: I mostly work on mixing and mastering, with occasional full production work depending on the project.
