RexHaven Studio on SoundBetter

I’ve tracked, produced, and helped develop hundreds of independent artists from all over the United States. I can help you take your music and artistry to the next level.

My name is Alex. I’ve worked in the music industry professionally since 2006. I worked with a company who ran a chain of studios and developed independent artists to prepare them for the next level. There I produced and engineered various artists who went on to sign with labels such as Tooth and Nail, EMI, Goatee, Red Chord, Blood and Ink, Rise, Epitaph, and Solid State.

Now I do the same on my own. I track, produce, mix, and on occasion master artists work. I also can pitch correct vocals, do session drum work, and edit.

This guy is so kind and helpful, I walked in with a poor idea of a song and no clue what to do and he was patient and assisted me and gave me ideas and I just got my music and I am so happy with it!

Interview with RexHaven Studio

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: My own project. I wrote and co-mixed it.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: My own project. Currently writing new tunes.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Chris Doss. Mike Piacentini.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Digital. Yeah, Analog has a vibe but digital in this day and age is just easier.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: That you will have a good time working with me. I'll bring my best to you are do my best to bring your project to the next level.

  11. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  12. A: Laptop. Midi Keyboard. External Hard Drive. Yamaha HS10, Did I say midi keyboard?

  13. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  14. A: I started dabbling in production and recording in 2004. I worked at my first studio in Columbus Ohio in 2006, then I was moved to Atlanta (with the same company). I did that until 2014 when I moved back home and now I freelance.

  15. Q: How would you describe your style?

  16. A: I love pop music and being creative in that realm.

  17. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  18. A: Emarosa. With my own project I already collaborate with their vocalist. I'd love to bring something to the table for his band.

  19. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  20. A: Make the client comfortable. If they don't feel comfortable then they won't trust you and trust is key in helping take an artist to the next level.

  21. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  22. A: Heavy Rock and pop.

  23. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  24. A: I can turn about anything into something that you can listen to no matter the skill level of the musician. After all I came from the world of artist development so I've worked with hundreds of indie artist who were and are just trying to make it.

  25. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  26. A: Creativity

  27. Q: What's your typical work process?

  28. A: I start with a rough idea of whatever song I'm going to work on. I can even write and start producing from a simple phone video. I then start building the track and once I have the layout, start layering in the parts that are going to be the keepers.

  29. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  30. A: I have some analog outboard gear and instruments but I rarely use it/them. (Unless I'm cutting drums) I guess I more collect it than anything. I mix and write most of my projects in the box.

  31. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  32. A: It really depends on the day but I am a pretty big Bobby Brown fan.

  33. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  34. A: I primarily do engineering, and producing. However I also mix and write for clients. I would say my wheelhouse in writing would be pop music.
