Interview with Jona Mareque

  1. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  2. A: What feeling should be created with your artistic idea? What story do you tell?

  3. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  4. A: Stay open for any idea, because the greatest results mostly come out of fun and inspiration.

  5. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  6. A: My guitar, a huge notebook, a long pen, a swiss army knife and a waterproof bag.

  7. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  8. A: I started writing music with 6 years on piano. Started to play in several bands as a teenager and started studying music early 20´s but quit, because I wanted to take my own time and progresses with my music. So i decided to study Audio-Engineering and Audio-Production. Worked with local as well as international Artists like Fernando Soto, Mikel Bustamante, etc.

  9. Q: How would you describe your style?

  10. A: Courageous, Confronting, Emotional, Dynamic

  11. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  12. A: I would love to work with Hans Zimmer and/or Danny Elfman, because both their careers had a very unusual road and both of them managed always to be true to themselves and be truly artistic.

  13. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  14. A: A good track takes time to age a bit. Like a good cheese.

  15. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  16. A: Heavy Music as well as Pop and Funk

  17. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  18. A: Fully let myself go in an artistic project and allow all my potential and ideas to spread out.

  19. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  20. A: Honest and radical changes that allow a listener to be entertained in common as well as unusual ways. I always find a way to bring more dynamic into a piece or find the one catchy melody you can´t find.

  21. Q: What's your typical work process?

  22. A: Visualize, identify, emotionally connect with the project/artist and then express my feelings, visions, plans and wishes. Very commited until the best result possible is achieved.

  23. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  24. A: I work in different studios on different locations, dependent on the project. Sometimes renting studios or in my own studio with a 90´s Solitaire Mixing console.

  25. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  26. A: Serj Tankian, Hans Zimmer, Danny Elfman, Dave Otero, Joe Barresi, Josh Homme, Igorrr, Kindzadza

  27. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  28. A: Mostly i mix songs by artists or producers and prepare them for a master. I also often work as a session singer and narrator for all kinds of productions.
