Interview with REIGN
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Has to be L x Tozla - Mamba. That's a song that's actually a remix I made for my good friend L's song (who's a new artist) that was actually a dancehall song. I made it a Slap house song and it spread quickly like wildfire. Up to the point that a big Serbian artist Tozla hits us up for a remix with his verse on. Now it booms in the clubs in the Balkans every Friday night!
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I have big projects in Europe coming up. Also, I'm working on expanding the US network.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: My guy Aasis Beats who invited me to SoundBetter makes awesome Hip Hop tracks!
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Don't have too much experience with analog equipment but either way I'd definitely say Analog. Feels different!
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise to realize whatever project I accept in time and high quality!
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: The creative part of it.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: I mostly get asked if I can get a radio sounding song done for them.. Always yes!
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Where I'm coming from there's a lot of misconception about being a musician. People usually relate you with either drug users or mafia type stuff haha. Balkans are a funny place
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Deadline is really important for me. I need to know if the client has a deadline he needs the project done by, because if I'm packed with work, I don't want to waste my nor the client's time.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: I don't really have a advice for a client. Really depends on the type of project.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Laptop, Audio interface, Monitors and a Microphone. Nothing else needed
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: Been on the job around 7 years. Started making beats in highschool then expanding the work over the internet and building a network with various artists to the point of having a studio and recording people in it.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Versatile!
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Future & Drake. Nothing much needed to say about them ;)
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Leaving space for the artist and not overcomplicating things is the most important!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Most work I do is in different subgenres of Hip Hop. I'd say that takes about 70% of my work a year.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: As a producer, probably drum production & vocal mixing.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I can bring you some European sauce to the songs that you wouldn't normally get even from most of the European producers since I'm from Balkan region that is in the middle of everything and has a rich and mixed culture of music that for sure left a mark on my production.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I can't really describe it. If not for hire, I make music based on the vibes I'm feeling in that moment.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio has a pair of KRK ROKIT 7s that are plugged into Apollo Twin audio interface. Also, I have a Slate Digital ML-1 Microphone.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Since I'm a big hip hop fan, I've always taken a lot of inspiration from Metro Boomin.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I mostly work with Hip Hop artists but also have a grasp in other genres such as House and it's subgenres, Reggaeton, Pop..
