Chisa on SoundBetter

I am a self produced multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter. I have been playing gigs in multiple states since 2020 and have been producing songs for myself and other clients since around that time as well. I recorded my first full length album in 2013 and have been writing since 2011.

I am looking to collaborate and work for artists who would like a songwriter and producer in one. I have multiple years of experience in playing guitar, piano, and drums (my most recent love). I would say my strongest asset and primary service is definitely songwriting, as that is what I went to college for. My passion for producing has come from years of struggling as a songwriter to get my music released. As a woman in this industry, I have worked with multiple musicians and producers who had predatory intentions and understand how frustrating it can be to find someone who just wants to help you get your music out there. My desire is to ultimately help simplify that process without having to sacrifice personal integrity and autonomy to do so. I wrote and produced my own EP in 2020, and did every bit of it, including mixing and mastering.

I was told I had just a poem not a song but Chisa believed in my vision and turned it into the most beautiful song ever in a timely manner. I couldn’t believe what I heard. Full on production, piano, drums everything and I am forever grateful. She responded fast to all my request and I would recommend her in a heartbeat. I can’t wait to do more songs with her and her team. Thank you Chisa!!! ❤️🙏🏼

As an artist, It is always a mind-blowing & learning experience to work with Chisa. She keeps it very professional as well as comfortable for the artists that she works with to just be in an unlimited creative space. She's an inspiration when it comes to assisting with co producing as well as lyrics. The fact that she's a multi instrumentalist is a huge PLUS, In addition to adding live instrumentation to produce more of an organic sound rather than artificial. Beautiful, talented being all the way around who is the one to call on to get the job done.

Incredibly efficient and reliable! Chisa helped me out of the box and led me to lyrical and melodic creativity! Quick turn around too!

Interview with Chisa

  1. Q: How would you describe your style?

  2. A: For my own projects, I would say I'm definitely very introspective lyrically and rooted heavily in my choral influences from my years in choir. That time period was also when I learned most of my music theory knowledge as I was lucky enough to have an amazing teacher who made sure we learned as much as we could in that area and so that's why I think a lot of my habits musically tend to be executed through that lens.

  3. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  4. A: A million answers pop up in my mind when asked this question, but I think my answer would ultimately have to be Miley Cyrus. From a vocal standpoint I'm just obsessed with her as an artist but also she's so genre-shifting like I am and I think our respective influences could end up in a collaboration that could be really cool.

  5. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  6. A: Of course! Maybe it's not a tip as much as it is a tip of what not to do though. My biggest mistake when I was first starting out was adding way too much top end to my vocals! I think I learned it from some random person on tik tok and I definitely overdid it for my first few productions.

  7. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  8. A: I mostly work on my own projects at this moment in time, which is very singer/songwriter or pop with electronic elements. I have really enjoyed working on my friends' hip hop/trap projects lately as it's a little bit more uplifting than my own stuff which can tend to lean more towards being a little more sad girl esque.

  9. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  10. A: Songwriting! Lyrics have always been my first love ever since I was a child and re-writing popular songs and turning them in at school for my poetry assignments. I love a good challenge too with lyrics, like if someone comes to me with one idea for a song and needs help fleshing the rest of it out. It's like a good puzzle for me and I thoroughly enjoy doing it.

  11. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  12. A: I think my strongest asset is definitely my wit as a songwriter, and ability to craft a melody over almost anything. I think being a multi-instrumentalist also helps because I can easily hear what elements I want to add to a song and can immediately execute instead of having to try and convey my ideas to someone and find someone capable of doing translating that.

  13. Q: What's your typical work process?

  14. A: I love starting out songs on just piano or acoustic guitar, then flesh out the rest of the arrangement in my DAW after I have the chord structure and lyrics/melody down. I also recently have been trying to approach songwriting from a production first standpoint, and most of my songs on my upcoming album were born from that. When I take that approach, I usually find a drum loop or MIDI loop that makes me inspired and makes me want to dance! I add the rest of the instruments at that point unless I already immediately have a lyrical/melodic idea, in which case I record that first.

  15. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  16. A: I have a 2022 Mac desktop computer, Yamaha HS-5 studio monitors, a Scarlett 2i2 as my current interface, and a Rode NTA mic. As far as instruments go I love tracking drums on my Roland TD-07 kit, and use either my parent's vintage early 90's Yamaha keyboard as my MIDI controller out of nostalgia if I'm not using my newer CASIO one. I own a couple Epiphone guitars (both electric and electric acoustic) and an Epiphone bass as well.

  17. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  18. A: Anybody that's out here independent honestly. I respect the amount of courage it takes to not let anyone or anything become an excuse to why one can't do something. The self empowerment aspect goes a long way with me.

  19. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  20. A: Custom songwriting and producing, toplining, and mixing/mastering.
