Interview with Saïna
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I am working towards my next 3 singles that are due to be released for this autumn, as well as an album for 2024.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I can promise a quality, tuned piece of work with vocals layered, if needed. Creating a full sound with vocals is my speciality and I take pride in making my songwriting as musically and high-standard as possible.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I am a mixed bag, with a spice for soul. I explore Rnb, Soul, Neo-soul, House, Nu-Disco, Jazz, Hip hop and Afro.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I begin with figuring out what my mood / theme / message is for the track I'd like to write. This will depend a lot on the instrumental or chords, if I am writing to something that has already been created. Once I've figured out what I want to say, I will write out everything I can think about this idea, not necessarily as lyrics but lines that could be refined into lyrics. I typically will carve out melodies that will work over chords / instrumental and voice note them so I have them to reference. Putting the two together, I will figure out my flow and melody with my lines that I've already brainstormed. This can differ each song and sometimes the melodies will come first but I am a strong advocate for having a clear message and catchy lines!
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have an SSL 2 interface, sE Electronics mic, Logic Pro, where I have recorded all my material.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I love all genres of music. From a young age, I've always been inspired by Amy Winehouse, Frank Ocean, Adele, Marvin Gaye and Nina Simone. As I fine-tuned my style, I fell in love with contemporary artists like RIMON, Jhene Aiko, Joy Crookes and Kaytranada.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I am mostly writing my own material but also working with other artists to co-write tracks. I record my own vocals in my home set up and love to do vocal harmonies and adlibs. I can work on more slower Rnb / Soul jams as well as faster House / Disco / Dance tracks too.
