Interview with Rikki
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Rikki project is my latest and most polished creative venture and i am currently filming music videos, making vinyls and touring for rikki. But i am very proud of my band Kokyu as its a very unique project ive created recently.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Mainly working on the rikki project.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: My friend fran who told me to sign up on here. Shes amazing.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: A nice mix is the perfect combination
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Satisfaction, and quality.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: The creative process, And then seeing people enjoy and move to my creations are my two favourite things.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: They ask if i can also help with music videos cause ive made plenty in the past. And i say yes.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That people think an AI can create good music. It might be playable on radio but lets face it, basic pop radio isnt real music with real feelings.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Depends on the project. Usually vision and dream based questions.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: When you're hiring someone you need to make sure you vibe with their creative style so i suggest you make a demo or a sound recording of what you want because its great when we can agree on sounds and visions and brainstorm and get further inspired and understand eachother more.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Laptop, microphone, my audio interface, massive speakers and my keys.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: About 8-10 years. Ive done four music projects under different names, sold songs to indie artists and created intro music for multiple tv series projects
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Fresh, emotional and addictive.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would like to work with damon albarn and many other artists that have unfortunately passed away like mac miller and michael Jackson.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Do things manually. Ai and automations are good but
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Edm mainly as making music on a laptop brings electronic beats a lot easier. I love house and trap. I dislike reggaeton. Im good with rock ballads and soul funk blues retro pop full band vibes.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Improvisational creativity
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Building songs from scratch allows me to form a unique and fresh sound. From edgy lyrics and innovative chord progressions, i can adapt to briefs and expand on visions
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: A good lyric idea is usually the beginning of a great hit for me. Other times an emotion or a prompt can really help kickstart the creative process.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work on Cubase. I have a proficiency in keys and vocals and a Rhode microphone that is perfect for professional sounding demos.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I am inspired by Damon albarn, anderson paak, Pharrell and timbaland. Multi Genre producers.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I songwrite and produce a large variety of styles of music and sell them to artists or tv series.
