Alfie T on SoundBetter

Music producer training at Abbey Road Institute London. I specialise in Hop Hop production with 6 years experience in this genre. I also mix/ master engineer and have had my mixes feature in official Spotify UK playlists.

I run private recording sessions and produce music for local artists, as well as artists based around the world using online services and tools.

I pride myself in creating rich and nostalgic atmospheres within my instrumentals, using vintage analog hardware to assure a retro feel, whilst still utilising the modern impactful sounds of industry leading software for the ultimate blend of old and new. I base my production around layering samples from many genres, some days it could be Jazz, or it could be Prog Rock. Some days I could be sampling drum breaks, or I could be playing the drum pads myself. There are always plenty of possibilities within my productions.

When it comes to recording with musicians, finding a way to make the artists feel empowered is what I do best. Creating an atmosphere within the studio in which artists can feel confident within themselves and their ideas, and being able to apply this confidence into the end product is most important to me. My aim when working with an artist is to help their ideas come to life no matter how farfetched they may seem. Wether I am producing a track, or mix and mastering a song, aligning myself with the artists vision is my duty.

Thank you for your time, I look forward to hearing from you.

Interview with Alfie T

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I was very proud when I released my first instrumental Hip-Hop album, title "Beat the System". It was daunting to release a project for the first time yet it was the most rewarding thing I could have done.

  3. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  4. A: I promise that no idea will be left unturned in the studio.

  5. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  6. A: I enjoy the fact I can be creative 24/7.

  7. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  8. A: How much do you charge? It depends on the project, contact me to enquire.

  9. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  10. A: Most people think being a producer in 2023 means all you do is make beats... I do that and much more. Mastering, engineering, live recording and I'm an all round studio vibe haha.

  11. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  12. A: I am working on 1950s, 60s, 70s, and 80s inspired music at Abbey Road Institute. The aim is to make these songs have authentic tones and textures relating to the time periods.

  13. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  14. A: Both as they have many pros and cons. In 2023 having an understanding for the new and old is vital.

  15. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  16. A: What are you listening to at the moment? What music did your parents show you as a kid? What is your favourite food?

  17. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  18. A: Since a child I have had stints playing multiple instruments, at points playing violin and guitar. I became interested in producing and mixing because my Dad is a DJ and Sound engineer. 10 years ago I used GarageBand for the first time. From 6 years ago I started to learn computer based production and engineering more seriously. During this time I have released 4 instrumental EPs and worked for various artists. In June 2022 I opened a public recording studio in my home town; throughout this time I recorded multiple vocalists and collaborated with various producers. In February 2023 I closed this studio to move to London all in preparation for studying at the Abbey Road Institute. I will be studying at the institute from June 2023 to June 2024. From there, only time will tell...

  19. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  20. A: AKAI MPC 2000, Mac, NS-10, Sontronics Aria and Technics 1210.

  21. Q: How would you describe your style?

  22. A: Natural.

  23. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  24. A: I would like to work with Action Bronson. I grew up in a household of amazing musicians and cooks, Bronson is incredibly talented and hardworking in these areas so I'd love to produce for him.

  25. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  26. A: Always work on the idea that scares you the most, you never know what the million pound idea could be!

  27. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  28. A: Hip-Hop, Jazz Rap, Rock Rap

  29. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  30. A: Communication.

  31. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  32. A: I bring the ability to make an artists feel confident in their most uncomfortable ideas. Often the ideas that scare you the most are the best ideas.

  33. Q: What's your typical work process?

  34. A: I usually produce my beats based around samples or live instruments, occasionally using synthesisers too. For mixing and mastering I use Pro Tools to assure the highest possible audio quality.

  35. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  36. A: For production and beat making I bring my MacBook and MPC almost everywhere I go. I produce using Ableton. For mixing and mastering with my home set up I use my Mac and Pro Tools system.

  37. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  38. A: The Beatles, George Martin, Rick Rubin, Kanye West, J. Dilla, The Kooks, Wu-Tang, Tame Impala, Jackson 5, The Ramones, Sex Pistols, Dr. Dre, Action Bronson, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Eminem, Stan Getz... I could go on and on hahaha.

  39. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  40. A: Studio production & beat making in studios across London. Online exclusive beat making services. Home studio Mixing & Mastering with Pro Tools rig.
