Hey there! I'm Raquel, a singer and songwriter based in São Paulo, Brazil. I'm all about music, and I've been doing this professionally for 15 years. I graduated from Faculdade de Música Souza Lima (São Paulo - Brazil) with a degree in songwriting and vocal performance. I was the vocalist of a symphonic metal band called Hydria for 7 years and released 4 albums with original songs.

I've got a wide experience singing in different styles. From pop and EDM to reggaeton, bachata, Brazilian funk, jazz, samba, bossa nova, country music and even rock/metal (clean vocals only), I love exploring various genres and creating and singing beautiful vocal harmonies! I've also worked on epic soundtracks for games and films.

Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Being creative and, of course, making music!
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: - What's your deadline for the project? - Do you have your track ready? - Do you have any ideas for the lyrics or do you want me to come up with something from scratch? - Is there another singer/song you would like me to take inspiration from, regarding vocal performance and/or songwriting?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: The more information and ideas the customer can share about their project, the closer I'll be to deliver the best results possible. Don't be afraid if you don't know exactly how to explain what you imagine for your song, I'll help you figure that out!
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been studying vocal technique since I was 5 and started working as a professional session singer when I was 17 years old. My first professional experience as a singer was being the vocalist of a symphonic metal band called Hydria from 2007 to 2013. After that, I graduated at Faculdade de Música Souza Lima (São Paulo - Brazil) and now hold a bachelor's degree in songwriting and vocal performance. I also work part time as a voice teacher at two conservatories, while I keep working as a session singer in my home studio. I've also worked as a singer for audiovisual productions, like Barbie franchise (brazilian portuguese) and other productions that are yet to be released to the public.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually sing pop, edm, folk, reggaeton, bachata, brazilian funk, jazz, samba, bossa nova and rock/metal (clean vocals only). I've also recorded epic game and film soundtracks before.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I think versatility and creativity are my strongest soft skills. I was classically trained, and after that I studied vocal technique for pop music and musical theatre - so these are my strongest hard skills!
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Passion, versatility and creativity. Music is my life, so I always pour my heart and soul on each song I have the privilege of singing/writing.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I usually start by focusing on the client's references for the lyrics (themes, ideas) and performance (maybe another artist/song that the client wants me to take inspiration from). After that I start creating the lyrics and vocal melodies together, so I can decide which words/verses fit the melody better. Then I start recording the lead vocals/double tracking vocals, and at last but not least, create and record the vocal harmonies on top of that. I like creating the harmonies while recording, so I can test different ideas in action. When the vocals are ready, I send all the raw files + a rough demo of the song with the vocals to my client, so I can better showcase my work and ideas. I also add a pdf file with the lyrics and english translation (in case the song's original lyrics are in portuguese).
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I provide clear HQ vocals recorded in my home studio with a professional condenser microphone. I use Logic Pro X.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I'm a huge fan of Paramore, Florence Welch, Aurora, Within Temptation, Nightwish, Lana del Rey, Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Anitta...the list goes on and on and I love a great variety of musical genres and styles.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I mostly provide lead vocals + vocal harmonies, original lyrics and vocal melodies. I've recorded the vocals for cover songs as well.
