Hello, my name is Bernardo Vidal aka Blare Vidal – Portuguese sound designer, music producer, composer and sound engineer with more than 15 years of experience.
I have worked on sound design and music for Insomniac music events, Beta Petrol TV commercials, MTV, and created immersive music soundscapes.
To me, being a sound designer is being a creator of worlds, a weaver of dreams. Itʼs a journey of discovery, of exploring the depths of sound and the power it holds to bring stories to life.

My particularity is an artistic approach to sound that stirs up emotions. I have a keen ability to feel the exact moment when the sound Iʼm creating achieves the desired emotional depth.

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I remixed a song from the band “The Doors” I had the pleasure to get original STEMS.

  8. A: Both! Analog for texture and digital for clarity.

  12. A: I love being able to tap into creativity and make sounds that give me goosebumps. Also love collaborating with other people.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: The worth and time it takes to deliver a professional work. Some people believe Sound Designers/Music Producers live in front of their computers 24/7. We are not machines yet!

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: What is your objective/direction with the project? What do you expect from me? Can you send me references of what you like (music, games, film, etc…)? What is the timeframe for completion of the project?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Quid pro quo!

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Well considering there’s no electricity, 1. A huge power bank with solar power cells. 2. Mac Book Pro 3. UAD Apollo 4. A big portable monitor speaker 5. Mouse (otherwise I would go nuts trying to edit on the Mac trackpad)

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: For 20 years now, It began in my teenage years with a hybrid version of PsyTrance. 9 minute long tracks with 120 layers, of 145 BPM’s 4on the floor beats. After honing in my skills for 4 years, performing in Raves, I travelled to South America to collaborate with more experience producers and searching for opportunities. Long story short this led me to North America where I had the pleasure to tour and produce with amazing talented artists.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: My style is always in metamorphosis, if I have to describe it I say it’s Mesmeric.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I’m a big fan of Kevin Parker (Tame Impala). He Composes, does Music Production and handles his performance setup, besides playing multiple instruments. And I love his Music! Of course there are other Producers that I really admire and you love to work with them.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Best music production tip is, take brakes on the project your working on! Doesn’t need to long breaks 1 day or 2 if you can, and ask for some feedback from another producer you know is 100% honest with you.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Lately hybrid styles with a HipHop foundation, also Ambient Cinematic, Dance Music will always have a special place.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: 20 years working in the music industry.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I have so much love and enthusiasm for music and sound! I’m always ready to try unconventional, different, out off the box ideas to make them fresh and unique.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: It rarely happens the same way twice, it depends on the project and mood. If I’m working with a client it begins on introduction, I love to collaborate and help shape the talent to reach her/his/they… full potential!

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I call my Spaceship “Pegasus” It flies me through out Universe looking for the next Beat & Melody. It has good acoustic treatment, a solid pair of EVE SC207 Monitors fed by an RME Interface. The main frame (PC) is packed with all the latest VST(i) Plugins, from Spectrasonics to Arturia, Native Instruments, FabFilter, Izotope...The list goes on.

  42. A: I’m a fan of Joel Thomas Zimmerman work(aka. Deadmau5), Sonny John Moore (aka. Skrillex), Finneas O’Connell, Dr.Dre, Kevin Parker (Tame Impala), Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay (Justice), El-P (Run The Jewels)

  44. A: I provide my clients with a unique custom made Music Production Experience + Mixing & Mastering also Field Recording.
