Interview with Peyton Leonard

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: My upcoming release, "Onward Travel." It is a beautiful piece and I'm proud of the way it was mixed and sung by me.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I'm working on releasing music consistently every month.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Yes, for sure. Katie Dwyer is a great musician and producer. She's extremely knowledgeable and has helped me better myself as a producer and artist.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Probably analog for me. It sounds more natural.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I promise to actively involve you in the projects we do together.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I love being able to use music for good.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: 1. How long have you been singing? I've been singing since my youth. Was blessed to be able to be coached and taught by an opera singer. 2. How long have you been doing music? I would say I've been doing it for a while. I got really serious about it when I released my EP, A Journey With God, in 2019.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: I think the biggest misconception is that you can't make a living out of it. If you know the right people and seize the right opportunities, anything is possible.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: Where do you see yourself in 3-5 years? What steps are you taking to reach your goals? Why are you wanting to make music? What's your why?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Be yourself, express your needs, and communicate effectively.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Hmmm, I would say a piano, a mic, a computer, an audio interface, and a webcam.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I've always been doing music along with writing books.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: I would my style is primarily Pop.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Lauren Daigle, for sure. I love her voice and her spirit.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Don't feel discouraged when you hit roadblocks. Reach out to those who know better than you and let them mentor you.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: I work on CCM, Pop, Singer/Songwriter, Rock, R&B/Soul, and Christian music.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: My strongest skill would be singing.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I bring the warm, cozy vibes while also bringing quality work.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: I am really intentional about keeping the client involved in the project. I want my client to feel like they have a say in how their song or album goes. I usually start with the track if there are already lyrics. If lyrics need to be done, I consult the client and ask what their ideas are first.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I have a custom built PC I've named Zelda (I'm a lover of videogames), I have a Native Instruments Komplete S88, Native Instruments Maschine Mk3, Apollo Twin interface, Shure SM7B mic, beyerdynamic headphones, and so many plugins from various places.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I'm heavily inspired by artists like Lauren Daigle, Adele, Sia, Billie Eilish, and Paramore.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Song production, vocals, arranging, mixing, and ghostwriting are a handful of things I do for my clients.
