Interview with Vince Blakk
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Yotto, Rüfüs Du Sol, Tinlicker, Ben Bohmer, Lane 8, Eli & Fur, Chicane, deadmau5 and more!
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: As a DJ and music producer, the most common type of work I do for my clients is mixing and mastering their finished tracks. Mixing involves balancing all the elements of the track, such as vocals, instruments, and effects, to create a cohesive and polished sound. This includes adjusting levels, panning, EQ, and compression to make sure everything sits well together and nothing is overpowering or muddy. Mastering, on the other hand, is the final step in the production process and involves enhancing the overall sound of the track. This includes adjusting the volume, adding some final EQ tweaks, compression, and limiting to make sure the track is ready for distribution and sounds great across all platforms. Both mixing and mastering are crucial elements in producing a high-quality finished product, and I always strive to deliver the best results for my clients. In addition to offering standard digital mixing and mastering services, I also provide clients with the option of choosing between analog or digital mixdown. Digital mixing involves using digital tools, such as software plugins and virtual instruments, to manipulate and process the audio signals. This method provides precise control over the audio and allows for unlimited recall and revisions, making it an efficient and flexible choice for most projects. On the other hand, analog mixing involves using analog hardware processors, such as equalizers, compressors, and tape machines, to process and manipulate the audio signals. This technique provides a unique warmth, depth, and character to the sound that cannot be replicated with digital tools alone. Analog mixing requires more time and resources than digital mixing, as it involves setting up and calibrating the hardware equipment, but the results can be truly outstanding. Overall, I work closely with my clients to understand their needs and preferences and help them choose the mixing technique that best suits their project and budget. Whether digital or analog, I always strive to deliver high-quality mixes and masters that sound great and exceed my clients' expectations.
