Years of experience working with audio, mixing and mastering EDM / Rock.
I want to work with you and bring the most out of your music, whether that's the icing on the cake at the mastering stage, making your mix fit for purpose on a range of playback systems - or - whether you need an in-depth hand with the mix stage, balancing each element and helping things hit just right.
Mastering Premaster Requirements: -
Audio Format: Minimum 16bit / 44.1kHz WAV
Headroom: 3-6db is nice but as long as there's no clipping then we're good
Master bus processing: Ideally all disabled. If there's a particular sound that you like from some of your master bus processing then let me know and send both a version with this processing and one without. We can discuss the best option going forward.
References: If there are any particular tracks / artists' sonic qualities you want to use as a reference then let me know.
Send me a note through the contact button above.
Interview with Syntax Mixing Mastering
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital: - Cost is lower - Easier to recall settings (all done automatically) - Can run multiple instances - For a clean sound it's already superior (no need for DAC / ADC conversion and no analog noise). For that extra "mojo", analog emulation is closing the gap to the point where the other benefits outweigh this small gap imo.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Spend time mixing in mono. It will force you to get the right space and separation in that cramped area. After you unfold back to stereo you'll appreciate just how easily balanced everything is without so much second guessing.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Listen Listen Listen! I like to make sure I have a few references to hand in the style of the song I'm working on. I also adopt the mindset of being happy with back tracking. Go back to earlier decisions and really question if they are still benefitting the track after other changes have been made, if not? roll them back.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: ITB setup running Presonus Studio One with HD600s and Sonarworks for the most neutral sound.
