Interview with Christian
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: It would be my band's 2nd album, because it was made during a time I was moving from Miami to Peru and I was migrating to a new DAW (Cubase). The final result came to be pretty good and it holds up to this day. Although my band produced it and recorded it, I mixed the whole album.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I am currently mixing a new song recorded in Miami with the band "Lotus Collective". We are making the final touches. Also I am finishing new songs from my band Atajos. Finally, last week I recorded 5 songs from a live cover band and this week I am going to mix those songs.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital has improved so much during the last years, that I think the gap between Analog and Digital is very small, that is why many mixers are migrating to digital. As per my current setup is digital, but I am not discarting to get some analogue equipment for an hybrid setup.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Some clients have the misconception that mixing is mastering and viceversa. It happened to me once with one client who hired me to master a song and at the end he wanted me to mix the song. I had to educated this client so, he could understand the difference and decide what to do.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work with in the box with Cubase Pro 11 running on a PC with a Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 as my main interface with a pair of Mackie monitors for Stereo reference and a Behritone speaker for mono reference.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: As a Mixer, I was inspired by Andy Wallace, Andy Scheps and Chris Lord-Alge. As a Producer, I was inspired by Butch Vig and George Martin.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I do recording, mixing and mastering jobs. I also have produced full rock bands and also have recorded some tracks as a session musician (electric guitar, electric bass guitar & back ground vocals)
