Mixing & Mastering Engineer

Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

A: One project I'm especially proud of is my band's latest album, Fulgor de Lejanías. I was involved in the recording and production process and mixed the entire album. It was a great opportunity to work extensively with guitars, live drums, vocals and percussion while developing the overall sound of the record.

Q: What are you working on at the moment?

A: I'm currently focused on developing my remote mixing and mastering work, working mainly with rock, pop and indie projects. I'm also continuing to develop my studio workflow for multi-microphone drum recording, hybrid processing and remote mixing.

Q: Analog or digital and why?

A: I use a hybrid approach. Digital tools are extremely powerful for mixing, but I also enjoy using analog hardware when it brings something useful to the sound or workflow. I prefer to choose the right tool for the song rather than follow an analog-versus-digital philosophy.

Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

A: One common misconception is that mixing is simply about making a recording louder or adding effects. A good mix is about balance, dynamics, space, emotion and making sure every element supports the song.

Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

A: My current setup is centered around Pro Tools and Cubase Pro with a MOTU UltraLite-mk5 as my main interface. I also use external preamps and analog processing when appropriate, together with a selection of microphones for recording drums, guitars, vocals and acoustic instruments. For mixing, I work primarily in the box while using hardware when it adds something meaningful to the production.

Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

A: As a Mixer, I was inspired by Andy Wallace, Andy Scheps and Chris Lord-Alge. As a Producer, I was inspired by Butch Vig and George Martin.

Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

A: I do recording, mixing and mastering jobs. I also have produced full rock bands and also have recorded some tracks as a session musician (electric guitar, electric bass guitar & back ground vocals)
