Interview with Life of a Busker

  1. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  2. A: Our products are original and always with a heart behind it.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: We spend a lot of time making demos and finished songs for our artist project Life of a Busker.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Luke Matthew is an amazing producer and we trust him with all our own productions for our own project.

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: Music is our passion and being able to work with ones passion is extremely special. We love the creative process and especially when everything comes together and you get a great song out of it.

  9. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  10. A: What's the theme of the song? Do you need topline, lyrics or both? Whos perspective are we writing from?

  11. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  12. A: Music is all about collaborating with the right people. Try out different providers and stick with the ones, that really works for you!

  13. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  14. A: Guitar, piano, songwriting books, Nintendo Switch, and a boat off the island.

  15. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  16. A: Since 2018, we have lived of playing music in the streets, and now we also release our own music in our project "Life of a Busker". We have written songs for 10+ years and written more than 400 songs in total.

  17. Q: How would you describe your style?

  18. A: Our musical style is very descriptive verses with easily singable choruses.

  19. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  20. A: Ed Sheeran and Julia Michaels seem like some of the more prolific songwriters out there, so working with them would be a great learning experience, and just in general a fantastic opportunity.

  21. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  22. A: Production is not our forte, as we are songwriters, but it's always better writing something on a regular basis, than once in a blue moon. Even if you write 9 songs in a row that's shit, the 10th might still be the one that makes the difference, so keep writing!

  23. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  24. A: We usually work on pop and singersongwriter songs.

  25. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  26. A: Lyrics is our strongest trait, and always our first focus point. Great lyrics with a clear theme make the rest of the song much easier to figure out.

  27. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  28. A: As we are a team, you get two minds for the price of one. On top of that we are perfectionists, who always strive for the best and most interesting idea. If you don't at least try to bring your best to a song, it will never be great.

  29. Q: What's your typical work process?

  30. A: We are quite old school, since we write all songs in our songwriting books while accompanying the process on acoustic guitar or piano. A song is usually written in a few hours, and 80 % of the time we start with the verse, which gives us a clear setup and then we move into the chorus or prechorus with a more clear punchline. Along the way we always challenge each others ideas to get the best possible lyrics and melody. Then when the song is finished, we write the lyrics in a dokument and make a quick recording and send it the costumers way.

  31. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  32. A: We use Logic as our DAW, have a Audio Technica studio mic and a Focusrite Scarlett interface.

  33. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  34. A: Ed Sheeran, JP Saxe, Sasha Alex Sloan and Julia Michaels are some of the artists that inspire us the most. Their way with words, rhythm and melody are incredible and unmatched. Their musical prowess is what we strive for in our songwriting.

  35. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  36. A: Every song is different, and may need another approach, but we are normally focused on lyrics having a coherent story or theme that matches a catchy chorus melody. We believe that verse lyrics, should give context or set up the songs premise, while the chorus usually works to sum up it all up in an easily understandable or interesting chorus.
