David Rothon on SoundBetter

If you want the beautiful sound of pedal steel – especially in a non-country context – I can help. I have worked with Lost Horizons (ft Simon Raymonde of the Cocteau Twins), and played live with artists including Rumer and Marissa Nadler. I also write and record my own multi-instrumental music – released on the acclaimed Clay Pipe Music label.

I am a pedal steel guitarist (and am also proficient on other instruments including Omnichord, melodica, bass, keyboards and theremin). I have played (and still play) in Americana-orientated bands, but my focus with pedal steel is using it in other settings such as psychedelia, soundtrack-inspired instrumentals and ambient soundscapes – as well as singer-songwriter, folk etc. I can also provide some country flavour to a rock/indie track.

I will work with you on a part until it's just as you want it - all for a very reasonable fixed rate.

I can also provide unusual and beautiful textures using the Omnichord and an array of effects, as well as haunting melodica parts.

I'm based in London and am happy to travel to a studio (within reason) or can record at home on Logic and provide WAV files.

David was VERY flexible and open-minded about my project and went the extra mile to make sure I had all the best possibilities. A winner.

David is not just a great player (and a lovely bloke), he has a wonderful ear - which means everything he adds is absolutely sympathetic to the song. His playing enhanced our songs immeasurably, and I wouldn't hesitate to reccommend him to anyone. Look forward to working together again.

David is an unbelievably BRILLIANT player. I have worked with him on a few albums and his work is never anything other than stunningly beautiful. He can only improve anything he works on and I hope to work with him again and again.

I've worked on various remote sessions with David- his musicianship and sense of 'playing to the song' is outstanding - second to none Very very musical and adept and many styles. Always brings something creative to the song. Great to work with on all levels. Highly recommended.

David is so talented and an absolute joy to work with! He's able to create such a diverse range of textures and colours, and is always sensitively attuned to a song's needs. I couldn't be more pleased with his contribution to my record, and he's a gem of a human to boot.
