Interview with Daniel Kallif

  1. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  2. A: Becca Don Kreuger, she is an incredible vocalist and is a pleasure to work with!

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: A mix of both. Analog provides a much warmer and inviting sound, yet digital is always necessary when looking for specific sounds and finishing touches.

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: I promise to always make the customer happy, and will do everything in my power to get you exactly what you're looking for.

  7. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  8. A: Ask yourself... What type of sound are you looking for? What type of emotions do you want people to feel when they look at your work?

  9. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  10. A: Ask all the questions you can, and i'll try to be as helpful as possible! I truly enjoy what I do, and you will definitely notice that when working with me.

  11. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  12. A: Computer (obviously), guitar, microphone, piano, and one hardware synth

  13. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  14. A: Deadmau5, mostly because he utilizes modular synthesizers that provide a unique sound, that can never be duplicated, and are unique to him.

  15. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  16. A: My strongest skill is sound design, making new sounds from scratch that are unique and will most likely not be heard anywhere else, as well as my ability to pair separate sounds in a way that will yield a cohesive and sonically pleasing sound.

  17. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  18. A: I try and elicit strong emotion with my music, and make sounds that reverberate with someone long after they are done listening to the song.

  19. Q: What's your typical work process?

  20. A: I try to work extremely quickly at first, in order to get my ideas out onto a canvas as quickly as possible, then after the initial idea is drawn, I will go back and start to sculpt and add intricacies into my work.

  21. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  22. A: I am heavily influenced by Daft Punk and Deadmau5, but have always tried to branch out and create sounds from all genres.

  23. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  24. A: Usually I write songs for vocalists, whether it be vocals first or song first. I occasionally write scores for film and enjoy sound design as well!
