Remote Mixing and Mastering

Colin B. Manahan on SoundBetter

I'll make your mix radio ready in no time.

It's not the song that I like, its the sound of it. That's been my experience with music as long as I can remember. I have an ear for detail and love the process of mixing and mastering a song. When mixing your song, I can provide vocal correction (timing and pitch via Melodyne 5), harmony additions, drum alignment, drum replacement, guitar re-amping, production elements, etc. I will work with you to see you vision through and get your mix radio ready. I'm a great communicator and am willing to work with you!

No limit (within reason) on number of tracks and revisions.

Would love to hear from you. Click the contact button above to get in touch.

Interview with Colin B. Manahan

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I mixed and mastered The DML Conspiracy's One Without the Other. It's allegedly gotten more attention than their other songs recently and has received great feedback.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: This Time by The DML Conspiracy and Shawna Cole.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: The DML Conspiracy.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Doesn't matter. Everything has it's place.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I promise to get your mix ready to compete on the radio.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: Listening to new music. There are so many talented people out there.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: "Can you turn the guitars down a little bit?" "Of course"

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: Just because it's in the box doesn't mean it doesn't have character.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: What sound are you trying to create?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Don't hesitate to ask questions. I won't be offended by any changes you would like made. As someone in education, I know I'm always learning.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Macbook, generator, air pods, audio interface, and my PRS Custom 24.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I've been honing my audio production skills before I began my actual training for my career path. I'd like to say I'm a better mixing engineer than I am a physics teacher.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Modern.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I'd love to work with Electric Enemy. They make great music and I'd like to be part of their journey.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Sidechain that kick.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Rock

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Making that kick drum pop.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I'm a physics teacher by day. I bring a level of critical thinking the average mixer does not. I love putting together the music puzzle a mix is. I strongly believe that your song should be dynamic and in motion. I bring that extra energy your song needs.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: I start out by organizing each track with color coordination (super important for sound) and creating appropriate buses. I then correct or fix anything that is within my power to make it radio ready (vocals, phasing, etc). Then I mix using some secret sauce techniques.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: A hobbyist home studio setup with proper room correction. Alesis monitors with a JBL subwoofer. AKG headphones, apple airpods, a Chevy Colorado, and other media for testing mixes.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Chris Lorde Alge, Zakk Cervini, and Joey Sturgis

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Mixing and mastering original and cover songs.
