Interview with Alice Mee (soundgirl)
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Make sure to be clear and concise about what you're looking for and your deadline and things should be smooth.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been singing since I was 9 years old as a Classical Singer, but I started doing Dance music since 2020.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to be able to work with Calvin Harris, I love how he's the one setting the trends in Dance music for the past 15 years.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually work on Dance Music (DnB, House, Deep House, Tech House, Techno, Trance and more), but I'm able to work on stuff that is Singer/Songwriter and Pop.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is my vocal ability and my ability to meet deadlines. I'm very productive and love a task, so I do my best to prioritise and get things done, as soon as possible.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring character, fun, excitement. I love performing on stage so much, I feel like a lot of recordings don't have the same energy that they would live, so I try to get my recordings as close as possible to a live effect, with the same energy.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My typical work process varies depending on the task required. If I'm toplining to a track then I will look at the references sent across, give the instrumental a fresh listen and come up with the melodies on the first listen. I record these in and see what concept would fit well to the melody. After doing this, I then write to words to the melody to ensure the best flow. For singing an existing song written by you, I make sure to listen to the demo and deliver the performance that you are asking for. I make sure that I get the best out of my performance to give you a great track.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio set up is my UAD Apollo Twin X, recording in Logic Pro X via my Neumann TLM 102. I use a bunch of plugins for my Processed vocals including Antares, Teletronix LA2 Compressor, EQ and more. I have a fully treated vocal booth which I record my vocals in, to ensure that they have the correct acoustic treatment.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I was really inspired by Becky Hill, Calvin Harris & Raye. I feel like they've all played a major part on the Dance scene over the past 10 years.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: My most common type of work is Vocals, Vocal Production, Songwriting and Toplining. I love working with any type of project, as I have a versatile vocal range and can cover a variety of genres. My artist project is predominately Dance music, but I was trained in Classical since the age of 9, so I'm able to do Classical, Pop, Rock and many more.
