Interview with Hagen Weidmann
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: The preview song you'll hear when you click on my profile is what I am quite proud of. It was part of my first EP and that song had original vocals on it. It was my first project working with original vocals and I had so much fun.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: At the moment I am working on quite a few tracks, 7 tracks if I am correct. One is release ready, so that I am looking forward too. The others are pretty close.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Tim van Werd. He inspired me to join SoundBetter to see what I can do and hopefully have some clients approach me with there wonderful ideas.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital. Always have learned on Digital and that's the way I prefer it now.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Just the feeling of finishing that song! I absolutely love that feeling! And release day of course!
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Some of my mixes can be soft but what's most important to me, is the quality of the production.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Just send me stuff. I am kind and I willing to help you with my knowledge of Music Production. I open to talk about your project and I don't judge your project.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: It's mixed. I did 1 year in Music (General), 2 years of Sound Engineering and now I am working as a Social Media Manager, full time with my brother. But my Music Production side of things has been going on for 5 years plus now and all self taught on how to get better!
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I am currently working with a singer by the name of Skhuselo Perisai. He is a South African singer and his voice is just perfect. We are working on a second track. It is a Drum and Bass track that I am collaborating with another South African as well.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: EDM, preferably Progressive House, Trance and Bigroom but I love to try other genres. I do not make beats as I find that incredibly boring, I rather like to be creative. Hope you don't mind that.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I don't have a typical work process. I mainly start with the melody and from then on, it is, go with the flow. For Mixing and Mastering, I like to take my time and make sure I can get everything to sound good.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I am simply in a bedroom. Who says you need a fancy studio? Only joking, but I do have a pair of Pioneer DJ DM-50D-W Monitors with a subwoofer. Simple as that. Oh, and I have my Masterkey 61 MIDI Keyboard for which I use my productions with and of course ATH-M30x headphones.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I have quite a few artists that inspire me. Martin Garrix, Elderbrook, AN21, MORTEN, Tim van Werd, and so many more artists. Those are the ones I can think of right now.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I will Produce a song for you, Mix a song for you and Master your song for you.
