JMercé Music on SoundBetter

Worked with Billboard charting artist, Shedrach Rowry (SHED). Featured on Soundgym's Artist Spotlight. Here are what my clients say about my work.

"JMercé is now my go-to mix/mastering engineer! Her knack for sonic detail, work ethic and unparalleled commitment to get it right is next to none! It doesn't hurt that she's a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter! Hence, she's able to bring that knowledge into every project as well and it won't take her all day to delver a final product! I guarantee, you will be pleased with her work!!

- Shedrach Rowry, The Levites

"One thing I'd say about Mercé Mixing is that it will blow you away!! I'm always surprised at how much flavor she adds to my voice!

- Ariana Symone

"The best decision I ever made was going to Mercé Mixing. Her mixing skills are above and beyond; it takes the music to another level. Not only is she a great mixer, but also a great person. 100% recommend working with Jessica!"

JMercé was honestly a pleasure to collaborate with! The process was super seamless and the communication was great. She understood the vision for the song and helped bring it to life.

Interview with JMercé Music

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I mixed and mastered an album's length of songs for a band during covid. All of the vocals were recorded in different rooms in their individual homes. It all needed to be done very well and very quickly. This requires a lot of attention to detail. I knocked this project out of the park and the client paid me more than my rate because I over delivered.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I just finished producing, mixing & mastering a few tracks for a travel documentary. I'm currently mixing a hip hop EP for a local Austin artist. Producing songs for an R&B artist.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Anyone who charges a pro rate is probably worth it. They take their craft seriously.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Both! I use my ears to determine what's necessary. I currently mix & master solely in the box.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I will give each song the time and attention to detail it deserves. I will not hurry through your project just to get to another. I intend to care for your project as if it were my own. You will love what you get.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I LOVE being apart of something where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Collaboration is the key to success and I truly enjoy seeing and hearing you fall in love with your song again.

  13. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  14. A: That mixing & mastering is easy. Don't let the internet fool you. Like learning an instrument, there is quite a lot of practice, skill and experience needed to do it right over and over again.

  15. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  16. A: What was the artist/band feeling when they made the record? What was their inspiration? Is there a backstory? This can help me better connect with the emotion and focus of the project. I don't mind reference tracks or examples. What's your timeline and budget? What formats are needed (WAV, Mp3 etc)? Are Instrumentals needed? What is most important, how loud it is, dynamics, a balance of both, commercial radio level? Any hopes and dreams for the mixing/mastering process? How can I help you understand this process better?

  17. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  18. A: The more information, the better. This will also help to make sure we are a good match for each other. If we aren't a good fit, I will not force the project.

  19. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  20. A: Trust your ears, but it doesn't hurt to get a second opinion from a trusted source.

  21. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  22. A: Like a great athlete, I've learned the skills and continue to develop my experience so that I can move off of instinct instead of rules or generalities.

  23. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  24. A: I give the artist peace of mind by taking their song/songs to the finish line. Emotion, clarity, depth. Here are three testmonials from my clients: "J Mercé is now my go-to mix/mastering engineer! - Shedrach Rowry, The Levites. "One thing I'd say about Mercé Mixing is that it will blow you away!! I'm always surprised at how much flavor she adds to my voice! - Ariana Symone "The best decision I ever made was going to Mercé Mixing. 25. Q: What's your typical work process?

  26. A: Listening. First, always. That along with the artist/band notes will give me my starting place. Typically, after one listen through, I can already hear where I want the project to go. Next, is using my tools, skills, and instinct to "turn the knobs" to fit the sound in my head.

  27. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  28. A: Greg Wells is an all around music savant. I hold Dave Kutch and Tom Coyne in high regard as mastering engineers. As far as mixing engineers, I am inspired by John "Yosh" Jaszcz, Manny Marroquin, Ken Lewis, Nic Hard, and Andy Wallace.

  29. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  30. A: I work for a variety of bands and artists, generally mixing and mastering, but I also do occasional production work.
