Interview with Yves Stilmant

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: Finishing a few songs for a customer, I wrote the lyrics, composed, arranged, produced, mix and master.

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: Both, it is important to be able what is required for each style of music.

  5. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  6. A: People have a tendancy to ask to compose music outside my scope of work, please refer to my website.

  13. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  14. A: Yves is a seasoned studio and touring musician since 1971, he is also a recording engineer, producer and recording studio owner, in 20019, he created his production company Audio Alchemy Productions. Yves is also the owner of Groove Tattoo Publishing (ASCAP). Yves is a member of ASCAP, AES, AIMP, ASMAC and MLC. Yves had the great honor to play, record, with a lot of great artists and awarded musicians with the like of: The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Kim Wilson, Tommy Castro, Gregg Bissonette (Maynard Ferguson, David Lee Roth, Joe Satriani, Ringo Starr All Star Band) and Matt Bissonette (Rick Springfield, Joe Satriani, Elton John, REO Speedwagon), Bruce Conte (Tower of Power), Lydia Pense and Cold Blood, Steve Lukather (Toto), Supertramp, Joe Satriani, John Sykes (Blue Murder, Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake)), Toots Thielemans, Peter Cor (Earth Wind and Fire, Lee Ritenour, Hubert Laws),Timothy Stretton (RIP), and Damon Gold. USA) and Yves’s own recording studio SLT Recording Studio in South Lake Tahoe, CA.

  15. Q: How would you describe your style?

  16. A: I like big arrangements specially orchestral ones, where I can let my creativity blossom.

  17. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  18. A: Hans Zimmer and John Williams would be the ones I would love to work with, but I work with world class musicians like Gregg Bissonette (drums and percussions), Matt Bissonette (Bass), and when he is available, Steve Lukather. All of the ones mentioned are my personal influences and inspiration

  22. A: MIDI editing, composition, arrangements, mixing and mastering

  24. A: Ambience, tensions, moods, arrangements, adapted to the themes given.

  26. A: Start with a theme, script, or precise ideas of what you are looking for. Then define all cues. Then send the video or movie.
