Interview with Vincent Bourdon Studio
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Unique and professionnal sounding mix.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Being part of a band for a few days, adding my own skills and personality into their music.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What's the project ? (number of songs, length, number of tracks...) Budget ? Timeframe ? Comfortable with working remotely ?
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I want my mixes to be unique. I always try to find some way to improve the song in my own special way, like by adding an additionnal background vocal for instance. Of course the client is always free to say he does not like my addition and ask to remove it !
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: As a musician I particularly admire Neal Morse, Steven Wilson and Daniel Gildenlow. As a mixing engineer I love Steven Wilson's work, as well as Rich Mouser's.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Mixing & mastering. I occasionnaly make pitch and timing correction if needed. I often add an additionnal voice or guitar to make my mix the best and most unique it possibly can.
