Interview with Chris Godla

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I have recently released several cover song singles currently available on Spotify, apple music, and all streaming platforms. Working in this business, you don't always get to play the stuff you really like. I gathered some of my all time favorite songs, arranged them and produced them from the first note to the last note of the song. With the help of only a drummer and an engineer, I managed to produce a full album of songs in a very short time. I got to record some of my favorite songs and showcase my talents and abilities as a professional music producer, at the same time!

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: A unique music genre! Combining traditional Gypsy folk music played in a sophisticated rock style. And of course, always working full time with different clients. I am a very busy man, thankfully.

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: I am a veteran and survivor of the analog era firstly. I love the sound of analog but you must use and be fully aware of todays digital technology in order to work in the music industry. Almost everything is done digitally now days.

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: To deliver the finest, professional quality music with ease and efficiency and no drama or difficulty. Chris Godla Productions always guarantees your satisfaction ... and then some!

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: It is my dream job nothing is dreaded about it

  11. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  12. A: That I am a financer because of the title "producer" And the idea that I only make beats for rappers cause I am a "producer"

  13. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  14. A: Expectations, the goal, the concept, the inspirations.

  15. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  16. A: I can show you degrees and awards all day long. But what really matters is the product I can deliver. I'd much rather show you some of the work I've done and let the product speak for itself. Check out some of the music I've released and you will automatically know that I am someone who takes his work very seriously, is extremely well and can deliver the goods!

  17. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  18. A: A bass guitar, an acoustic guitar, an electric guitar and a keyboard workstation and a PA system.

  19. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  20. A: I've been a live performer for most of my life. Playing live as a Bass player, Guitar player, Keyboardist and Vocalist. I have only recently decided to move into the studio as a full time producer and recording artist. I still enjoy playing live sometimes but not nearly as much as I enjoy working in the recording studio.

  21. Q: How would you describe your style?

  22. A: Cool, hip, old school Jazzy RnB with a modern quality.

  23. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  24. A: Bruno Mars, Pharrell Williams, and John Legend. because I believe I we would jive musically and come up with some great, old school funk/RnB stuff.

  25. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  26. A: Have a great intro, a great chorus, and a great ending. This is what sticks in people's minds.

  27. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  28. A: Both kinds! Country AND Western! (J/k a little Blues Brothers reference). I do a lot of RnB, Jazz, Hip-hop and Classic Rock

  29. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  30. A: I started out my career as a bass player. I have been performing live since I was 12 years old. Eventually I would go on to play Guitar and piano and become a singer as well. But everything I do all evolves from my bass playing. So I'd have to say I'm most confident with the bass. As long as the bass is there, everything else will follow.

  31. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  32. A: Professionalism, uniqueness, emotion, taste, never ending talent, knowledge, and most importantly, experience.

  33. Q: What's your typical work process?

  34. A: I start from scratch with a drummer or drum machine. Once the groove and structure is established, I play the other instrument tracks one by one. Lead and backup vocals are added on top and the song is then ready to be bounced for mixing and mastering. I have an incredibly strong work ethic in the recording studio. No time or opportunity to create is wasted or overlooked. I enjoy working in the studio and like to be quick and efficient but I will not leave the studio until I complete the production to the fullest and very best of my ability. What ever it may take.

  35. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  36. A: I have several studios and engineers I work with. I am not a big tech guy or geek squad intelligent. I can be my own engineer and know my way around Pro tools, logic, presonus daw's, etc. However I would much rather work with an engineer so I can focus on the musical task at hand.

  37. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  38. A: I am very old school minded. All my biggest inspirations are retro age artists. Marvin Gaye, Bobby Caldwell, Sting, Gino Vannelli, Donald Fagen, Stevie Wonder, Phil Collins, David Crosby, James Taylor, Eric Clapton, I love old school rap as well. 2pac, Snoop Dogg, Biggie, Dr. Dre, Eminem, I really admired them for using real instruments and real musicians on their songs. That proved to me that rap can be more than just a drumbeat over a sample. I believe as you get older, you develop a sound from all your influences put together and then some of you on top. That's what it all comes down to.

  39. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  40. A: Compose and record music for film scores, soundtracks and commercial jingles. Provide backing tracks (beats) for singers, rappers and musicians. Produce my own music and releases as a music artist.
