Remote or In Person Recording Electric or Acoustic Guitar.
I'm Joe, a session guitarist from Birmingham, UK. With nine years of experience, I specialise in Rock, Pop and Funk as well as Indie Folk and draw on influences ranging from Steely Dan and Aerosmith to Phoebe Bridgers. I am very passionate about writing and recording guitar parts and have Industry standard equipment to aid me in doing this successfully. I take a lot of inspiration from the LA studio musicians of the 80s such as Steve Lukather and Paul Jackson Jr as well as musicians part of the Nashville scene like Tom Bukovac. I am able to track independently with a quick turn around time of 1-3 working days and offer one free revision before charging a small fee for any further amendments.

Interview with Joe Calverley
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Upon receiving the track, I like to listen through, charting and transposing as I go so that I can quickly understand the track. I will then listen to any reference songs that I have been recommended and decide on what I feel the track needs. I usual tend to track all rhythm parts first before moving on to lead or overdub parts. I prefer to focus on one section at a time as I have found this to be the most efficient way however, some songs I feel benefit from the rawness and authenticity of having complete passes and therefore where appropriate I will take this approach.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I Work in Logic Pro X and use a Neural DSP Quad Cortex into a Focusrite Scarlet for all amp sounds and effects. The Quad Cortex allows me to record with a fully effected wet signal whilst simultaneously capturing a dry and DI signal to leave plenty of room for re-amping in post. For monitoring, I use a pair of Yamaha HS5; they offer a clear and reliable sound that make them ideal for tone shaping and tracking. To record acoustic, I use a combination of Neumann TLM 102 and Sure SM57, SM58.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I am influenced by session greats ranging from members of The Wrecking Crew and The Funk Brothers such as Tommy Tedesco and Ray Parker Jr to musicians of 80s LA like Steve Lukather and Tim Pierce along with modern practitioners like Justin Derrico and Andrew Synowiec. As well as these session musicians, I am heavily inspired by guitarist Like Mateus Asato, Joe Perry and Brad Whitford, Slash, Nile Rodgers, Brian May.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I most commonly lend electric guitar parts that consist of a mix of rhythm, lead and overdubs depending on the requirements of the track and wishes of the artist. I offer every artist options in terms of parts, often recording two or more variations on parts so that the artist has what they need to complete their track.
