Interview with Bruno M Bassani
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Probably Endigna's album "Otherside", it took around a year of work where I ended up creating arrangements for the band as well and transforming the band's sound a lot. The mixing and mastering process as usual took about 2, 3 days.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: A modern metal band from Brazil and mixing a heavy metal band from Chile
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I'm new here, not yet.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Each style asks for something. I would say digital but without analogue we would not have digital.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Do my best.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Every song or record is like the artist's baby. A dream. I like being part of that story.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Do you have coffee? Yes
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: I think I put too much feeling.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: How would you like your music to sound?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Work with someone who respects art much more than the music industry
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Complete PC , Audio Interface , Power Generator , A great chair and a nice table
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: Close to 15 years
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I produce artists that I myself will listen to in my daily life. I mix and master to please myself too. I end up becoming a fan of bands that enter the studio here.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: It's hard for me to talk about one in particular, because we have incredible artists in the underground. I value an unknown musician as much as an extremely famous one.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Without good music and good execution we won't have a class-A mixing/mastering
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Pop , Extreme Metal , Rock , Folk , Modern Metal
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I don't know. But I believe I have a big focus on guitar reamps and making everything audible in the mix even if my mastering is pretty loud.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Personality , market competitive sound
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Initially I talk to the client and try to make him feel at home. I listen to your music and do a research of musical genres and inspirations that the client has. Then I check tempo, tunings and then I start the mixing process.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work with a hybrid setup. A great computer connected with Universal Audio converters and classic peripherals like 1176 , 2A , 160A , 166 , etc etc etc
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Dave Otero , Zakk Cervini , Machine
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Production , Mixing , Mastering , Editing
