Interview with Luke Lethal

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I am especially proud of my remix of Andy Van's rendition of "Rack City" which charted in Australia on the Top 100 ARIA Dance charts (similar to Billboard in the USA), peaking at #7 and holding for several months. This success saw me booked in Australia, playing a show in Melbourne as a result of the track's popularity, as well as receiving airplay on the infamous radio station triple j (similar to BBC in the UK).

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I am currently working on several hard and acid techno projects and targeting specific labels & artists to sign to.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: N/A

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: I work faster in digital but love analog gear.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I promise to deliver you a track of the utmost quality, that will standout and help grow your brand.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I love music with every ounce of my being. It is like breathing.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Generally if I can create the style and sound of specific producers. My answer is always yes. It can be done.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That this is easy. Just because I have 19 years experience and can complete tracks quickly, does not mean that the work should be cheaper or devalued. I am able to work swiftly because I have honed my craft like the blade of a samurai, always ready to strike with precision.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: What styles of music are you interested in & which artists in particular do you wish to mirror in your sound? What tempos do you normally DJ at? Where are you located in the world?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: I suggest that you work with me to create that breakout track that will take your career to the next level. I can custom craft the perfect track to get listeners to take notice of your brand. Anything is possible and I can help you get there.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

This soon morphed over time to using the Ableton Live production suite, where things really started to take off and my sound began to develop and evolve. I have been a producer & DJ for 19 years as well as a record label head (Vantablak) for 7 years. I am deeply entrenched in the culture and scene and consider myself tapped fully into what works and what doesn't.
