Rafa Rodriguez on SoundBetter

I mix and master metal and heavy music with a focus on punch, clarity, and preserving the character of the performance.

Heavy music should sound powerful, clear, and exciting, not muddy, harsh, or over-processed.

I specialize in Heavy Metal, Power Metal, Symphonic Metal, Black Metal, Death Metal, Thrash Metal, Progressive Metal, Metalcore, Hard Rock, and related styles.

As a mixing engineer, I approach every project from a production perspective. The goal is not simply to make a song louder, but to create a balanced, powerful mix where the drums punch, the guitars carry weight, the vocals sit naturally, and every part supports the song.

What you'll receive:

* Professional mixing and mastering
* Release-ready WAV and MP3 files
* Revisions included
* Clear communication throughout the project

What I'll need:

* Consolidated audio files exported from 00:00
* Reference tracks (optional but helpful)
* BPM or tempo map if available
* Notes about the sound you're aiming for

Please get in touch before ordering if you'd like to discuss your project, or if you're working on an EP, album, or larger production.

    It was great to work with MetalworX. He understood exactly what we wanted to achieve, very clear communication and high responsiveness. Would not doubt to work with him again!

Interview with Rafa Rodriguez

  1. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  2. A: What are your goals for the release? Do you have any reference tracks? What do you like and dislike about your current mix? Are there any production challenges you'd like me to address? These questions help me understand the project before I start making decisions.

  3. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  4. A: One project I'm particularly proud of was working with Vandor. It was a great opportunity to contribute to a style of melodic power metal that I genuinely enjoy. The challenge was balancing clarity, power within a multi-layered arrangement while keeping the energy of the performances intact. Seeing the finished release out in the world and hearing the positive response made it especially rewarding.

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: My promise is simple: clear communication, reliable delivery, and a mix that reflects the character of your music rather than forcing it into a template.

  7. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  8. A: Listen carefully to examples of previous work and make sure the engineer understands your genre and artistic goals. Technical ability is important, but so is musical understanding. The right engineer should help bring your vision to life rather than forcing your music into a generic template.

  9. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  10. A: Heavy Metal, Power Metal, Progressive Metal, Symphonic Metal, Death Metal, Thrash Metal, Traditional Heavy Metal, Black Metal, Hard Rock, and related genres.

  11. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  12. A: Understanding heavy music and what makes it connect with listeners. I've spent years immersed in metal and its many subgenres, which helps me make decisions that enhance the music without losing the aggression, atmosphere, or personality that makes each band unique.

  13. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  14. A: I approach every project from a musical perspective. I'm constantly asking what the song needs to communicate and how each element can contribute to that goal. Sometimes that's bigger guitars, sometimes tighter drums, sometimes creating more space and clarity so the arrangement can shine. Every decision is made in service of the song.

  15. Q: What's your typical work process?

  16. A: Every project starts with a conversation about your goals, influences, and references. Once I receive the files, I review everything to make sure the tracks are organised and ready to continue with the process. I then move through editing, mixing, and mastering as required, providing updates and revisions along the way. My goal is to keep the process straightforward and collaborative while delivering a result that serves the song.

  17. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  18. A: I primarily work with metal and heavy music bands, providing mixing, mastering, editing, and MIDI drum programming. Most projects involve helping independent artists turn their recordings into release-ready productions while preserving the energy and character of the performance.
