Endorse VincencusBrendan was very easy to work with and produced some amazing music for our student film project. I highly recommend him. 👍🏼😊🎥
All I can say is wow! I gave Vincencus what I considered my hardest composition, and he nailed it. I couldn't be happier with his attention to detail, talents, turnaround time, and professionalism. What a gem to have in my arsenal for compositions. I'm sending him two more of my tracks right after I post this. Thank you Brendan.
I highly recommend Vincencus. I'm a repeat customer because he is professional, the music tracks are perfect for my work and opera learning piano tracks. Vincencus is collaborative! If anything needs changing (tempo, style, etc) I get my learning tracks fast! Vincencus provides exactly the service I need!
I can't recommend Vincencus highly enough! His formal education in music and experience in the field gives him an incredibly knowledgable foundation to build upon. That alone, I value. On top of that, his musical mastery with attention to detail & fresh perspectives have brought my music to another level. He is a joy to work with - as open to feedback and direction as he is willing to come up with something from scratch. If you simply need a wicked piano track or a cinematic fully-fleshed-out orchestral score, Vincencus is up to the task.
Interview with Vincencus
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started out as a concert pianist and conductor but after getting bored I began dabbling in soundtracks. I landed my first show, then did some media music for KBS TV in Korea as well as production for a hip hop artist. I moved to the states and got hired as music director for musical theater and opera. I still do a lot of that but am focusing my energy on film and TV sync now.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: AKG K701s... They make anything sound good.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I like the variety of music that I get to work on. I thrive on playing different styles and learning the intricacies of genres and what makes them unique.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Having a reference song/composer is a huge help. Having a good idea of what you're wanting to say is useful for me to create a roadmap of the production.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I have a strong grasp of phrasing and rhythm and how they make a production shine. Musicality is the flavour in any dish.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Junkie XL and Ludwig Göransson. The music they produce is so varied and they both have a talent for creating something fresh and new. I particularly love that they both have success in popular and orchestral/soundtrack music.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Less is more!! Avoid layering too many orchestral instruments.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I do a lot of opera and musical theater, making rehearsal tracks, coaching singers, etc. I have also started to get busy with small orchestral tracks and trailer-style music.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I worked as the music director for a musical theater piece which went straight to the studio. We spent three weeks rehearsing the work, then went into studio for three days to record the band. After the band was mixed we recorded vocals for another three days. The final mix was tight, dynamic, and an excellent resume item for everyone involved.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I am building my catalog of music for film and sync. I have several albums planned for the near future and am in the process of writing songs and planning soundtracks.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital... While I'm a huge fan of the D-50 as well as the JD-800 and love the warmth of analog, I just don't know enough about it to dedicate more energy at this point. Maybe in the future.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I like to listen to a track a few times to get familiar with the structure and needs of the production - I always use a notepad to capture every scrap of info my brain is throwing out. I will when start to sculpt ideas and put them down. The next step is to shape all of the orchestral lines for realism.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio is a versatile rehearsal and production space. My keyboard and midi controller are always close in whatever configuration I am currently using. I stand as much as I can so my studio monitors are high and separated by two screens on monitor arms for efficient and adjustable desktop use. Most importantly, my couch offers a soft place to sit when I'm writing, playing guitar, or listening to alt mixes on the pair of regular speakers behind me.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I love the work of Junkie XL (Mad Max Fury Road; Justice League; Terminator Dark Fate). His writing is balanced with creative melody writing and powerful percussive elements. He embodies OLD and NEW writing styles, which is rare.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: People come to me to add keys and/or orchestral touches to their productions. I support existing instruments with string support, or add epic drums to tracks that need more clout. If it's orchestra or keys, I got you.
