James Night

Topline for you next hit!

James Night on SoundBetter

You know what to say, but you don't know how? Let me write your next hit song! Need a catchy hook? Great lyrics? Search no more! Hi :) My name is James Night! I'm a pop musician, signed to a Warner Music licensee and I write songs!

I find my inspiration in people and I take from not only my own experiences in life, but many stories and people around me. I love learning, I love listening to what people have to say and turning that into catchy lyrics.

My pen has many faces, from lovey-dovey songs, good time, fun and dance songs, all the way to the revengeful, witty, bitter lyrics. This means, whatever is needed, I comply! Have a fun story to share, want to turn it into a song? Went through a heart break? Writing a song in spite of someone? No problem! Been there, done that!

I write pretty fast, that is something that comes naturally to me and I have even won awards for my writing!

My first album Weatherman is something I am lyrically very proud of, here are some lyrics from it so you get just a bit of taste of my style:

"Oh my God I feel how the grapes all flow in and Lord, turns all the coal to diamonds instead of my tears" (Head In The Clouds)

"I want you to be mine, but your heart longs for her love. I don’t have what she’s got.Sun kissed eyes know what I don’t" (Natalia)

"I’m a wannabe, but talent isn’t my game. My dad’s so rich, so he’ll just buy me my fame" (Bonnie & Clyde)

This album lead me to signing for a Warner Music licensee and to top everything off, I can't wait to start working with y'all, I guarantee it'll be awesome!

    Interview with James Night

    1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

    2. A: My new album! I'm just creating some visuals for it and it's gonna be out in no time!

    3. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

    4. A: Riley Smith! Bram Fidder! Both amazing, kind people and both talented musicians! We work closely on my stuff!

    5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

    6. A: I listen. I always give more than they ask for. Couple of versions of lyrics, of melodies, I always record things so they can hear how they'll sound etc. I give them not just what they are paying for, but I'm a strong believer in inspiring other people around me and that is what I do. I never hold back or gate keep things, I like to share and make their project the best it can be! It benefits the both of us, and I see no reason to do otherwise.

    7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

    8. A: Music. Music is what I like the most. It's all about it, my whole life has been all about it and hopefully it will continue to be all about it.

    9. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

    10. A: I like to hear their stories, if we are writing the melody, I like them to explain the feeling they want (if they know what they want, if not that's okay, too, I always come up with something) and if we're writing lyrics I like them to tell me if there is anything in particular they want me to write about etc.

    11. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

    12. A: Look no more! You found me :)

    13. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

    14. A: Is wine considered gear?

    15. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

    16. A: I have been ghostwriting for dozen of artists ever since 2013. It paid my bills, it paid production of my own songs. I released couple of singles throughout the years and my first album "Weatherman" in 2021. I got signed this year to a Warner Music licensee and now I want to work with other people as well, inspire you, inspire myself all through the music!

    17. Q: How would you describe your style?

    18. A: Catchy, bit of eclectic and versatile.

    19. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

    20. A: Max Martin on my own songs, that one's a dream of mine for a long time!

    21. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

    22. A: Not really a production tip as I'm not a producer, but will share one writing tip and that is to come up with new ways of saying old things.

    23. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

    24. A: Pop music in 80% of the cases, but every now and then I do an acoustic piece or even rock songs. I don't think these genres are that different beside the obvious sonic distinction, lyrics really can be universal if performed the right way.

    25. Q: What's your strongest skill?

    26. A: Writing!!!! I have been writing since I was 6 years old and haven't stopped since. It inspires me to tell not just my stories, but other people's stories as well. I think we

    27. Q: What do you bring to a song?

    28. A: I've always believed that beside the melody, lyrics can carry a whole song as well. Therefore, that is exactly what I bring. Both of those, actually! I love melodies, I'm always coming up with new ones, lyrics I always write in my Notes app, every time I get inspired by something (and that is A LOT). I do catchy melodies, catchy lyrics, but with a certain amount of meaning behind them.

    29. Q: What's your typical work process?

    30. A: Bottle of wine, MacBook and get to the writing. After the writing's done, record my vocals, find great producers (mostly here on Sound Better) and work together until it sounds the way we both like it!

    31. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

    32. A: I have a studio where I record my music, write, but it's also a bit of a photo/video studio as well as I do all of my visuals, too. When writing my melodies/lyrics I do them on my piano, balancing my MacBook on the keys.

    33. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

    34. A: Everybody that lives their truth in a most honest and expressive way inspires me. Of course, there are always some that stand out, I have been in love with Max Martin's music ever since I know about myself, his melodies are out of this world. I admire many various musicians as I have been raised on old-school rock, but again MTV was always on in our household!

    35. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

    36. A: I write them hits! I always like to say that I'm a chameleon when writing as it all comes naturally to me. I've always lived through my emotions and felt them very strongly, so I can relate to what people are feeling and write them songs.
