CECIL on SoundBetter

I am an experienced producer, mixer and engineer who has worked on Grammy and Mercury Prize nominated records. Artists I have worked with include PJ Harvey, Jehnny Beth, Biffy Clyro, Nothing But Thieves, Palace, The Big Moon and Warpaint.

For over a decade I have worked with bands and artists recording and mixing records. During that time I have worked very closely with some of the world's top producers. After spending a long time learning the craft of engineering I am expanding my work to include more mixing and production. I work out of my studio El Chiringuito which is equipped with lots of great instruments and outboard. I have a lot of synths!

I play guitar, bass and piano as well as being a programmer and sound designer. From my studio I am able to work with solo artists to help them create full arrangements for their songs right through to final mix. When working with bands I tend to do the main recording at various studios across the UK depending on what suits the project. I really enjoy the process of making music, from recording right through to finished mixes. I can work from the ground up or build on and improve a bedroom demo.

I am fortunate to have a wealth of knowledge of recording and mixing and I am always on the lookout for new artists to work with so message me if you're interested in collaborating on something

Cecil is a creative, talented and generous producer who I would work with any day of the week. Sessions are so fun, fast paced (without being rushed) and he really understands me and how to get the best out of my songs. He takes my demos and with our combined ideas and Cecil’s production skills we elevate them to make some real magic. I would trust him with any project because he brings such creative ideas and has a deep knowledge on the technical side. As well as being great at all elements of his job, he’s a great guy. I’m so glad we found each other! Life changer!

Interview with CECIL

  1. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  2. A: Digital processed through analog or vice versa

  3. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  4. A: Commit. Don't have a million options.

  5. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  6. A: I mainly work in the indie/alternative world but have worked across many genres

  7. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  8. A: I am a very relaxed presence in the studio. I can interpret what the essence of the song is and help elevate that.

  9. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  10. A: I am good at knowing when a mistake was stroke of genius or not.

  11. Q: What's your typical work process?

  12. A: The greatest aspect of my job is that the work process is always different depending on the artist and project. One day it may be tracking every instrument separately, the next a whole band together and the next mixing. It's the variety that I love the most.

  13. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  14. A: I have a small mixing studio which is fully equipped with Pro Tools and a lot of vintage outboard effects. I have a lot of synthesizers all hooked up and ready to go too.

  15. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  16. A: I really like John Congleton's productions.

  17. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  18. A: I mostly record songs. That can be with a band in a big studio or with a solo artist working together to build up an arrangement. I have been doing more mixing work lately.
