Endorse Alex NagyInterview with Alex Nagy
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: One of my favorite projects has to be my own one I made when I was 20, called 'Hide'. I was going through a rough patch and I had an idea to hand draw a music video. Ended up charting on hungarian television for 5 weeks, spent 2 weeks at the no.1 position on the international dance chart.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: My best advice is to know exactly what you are looking for and be detailed enough so I will have no troubles understanding your wishes.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Laptop, headphones, audio interface, keys.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been working in audio for the past 10 years now, mostly started for myself and my personal brand, after finding some success in that I started to pick up freelance gigs so I can put myself through collage.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: The best word would be genuine. By no means my work is perfect, I am not even aiming for that. What I look for is to capture a feeling and by the end of the process keep the soul in the records as much as possible.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to get in the room with Jon Bellion, seeing him create is a sensation to me.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Your ears never lie. You must not let visual feedback of audio change your way of thinking.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I mainly work on EDM projects nowadays but in the past I had the pleasure to produce/mix a wide range of records from emo-pop to hip-hop.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: One of my skills I'm proud of is the active attention span I managed to build out during the years, I am able to zone in for consecutive hours and work to the best of my abilities without losing efficiency.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Apart from the years of experience and countless hours spent on different project, I try to sprinkle my fairy dust on every record, regardless if I engineer or produce, I'll make sure your project stands out.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Since I've been moving around, I've learnt to work on the go, nowadays as the weather starts to become beautiful in Amsterdam, I love camping out in the nature and inspire by that, also switching up the environment can give me new creative boosts, which is super enjoyable.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I've just recently relocated in Amsterdam, I work with headphones mainly so I don't have to worry about the acoustics, apart from that I do have access to a professional studio in my home country where I just bounce ideas back and forth with my friends there to make sure all the work I do translates well on professional studio equipment as well.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Most of my inspirations come from the technical side, I'm obsessed with learning something new about engineering every day, the one I've learnt the most from is Luca Pretolesi, one of the best engineers in this age of music.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I consider myself an industry do it all. Apart from singing I'm able to cover most fronts of music making, from producing to mixing, mastering to vocal/podcast editing.
