Daniel's beat was so good that it made working on the project a delight. I would love to work with him again.

Interview with Daniel Lee

  1. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  2. A: Suvi Suresh is an incredible vocalist.

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: Digital because even though the sound quality might be slightly lower, the versatility and workflow in digital consoles is far superior. Also, most of the work ends up in a digital format anyways.

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: My promise is that I will be here to support your vision, no matter what it is.

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: Being a part of the creatiev process. Whether its studio recording, Live performances or film/video production. I love the team effort that goes into creating a project because no one does it alone.

  9. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  10. A: What are you favorite parts that you'd like to highlight? What parts might you be insecure about? What do you listen for when listening to either your own or other peoples music?

  11. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  12. A: Always leave your ego in the parking lot.

  13. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  14. A: I am open to all types of music

  15. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  16. A: In live sound, my strongest skill is the relationship i build with the artist. By making them feel comfortable, I like to think I can get the best performance possible. That usually comes with the ability to allow the artist to not have to worry about the sound or tech while on stage, creating a stronger connection between the artist and the crowd. When I am producing or mixing a record, I look for the same type of connection between the artist and the listener by highlighting the emotional aspect of the song.

  17. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  18. A: While I am very technical with both my Live and Studio Mixing, I lead by feel. Sound quality is a must, but I like to get creative with the emotional side of the mixing aspect.

  19. Q: What's your typical work process?

  20. A: I typically ask for a week for most project but I can usually work with reasonable timelines when there is an urgency. Please feel free to ask and I can let you know what I'm able to do.

  21. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  22. A: I work on Logic using Genelec Studio Monitors, and a series of headphones for reference. I have both Waves and UAD Plugins that I use.

  23. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  24. A: Most commonly I mix Front of House or Monitors for live performances. Occasionally I will do Remote Mixing for songs, Beat Production, Sound Design and Post Production Audio.
