Interview with Keith McCoy
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I’m proud of every drum track I’ve been lucky enough to provide for friends, clients and my own music. But 2 projects a little different that I’m proud of… I had a track on a John Carpenter tribute album And I wrote and recorded and score for a horror fan film. That was something way out of my comfort zone that I’m glad I done
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: My own full length version album - progressive, rock, metal and Synthwave influenced
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: No
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I’m all digital. But that’s just what suits my situation. There’s plenty of room in the world for both I think
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I will always try to bring the best drums to your track. And it’s not done until you’re happy with it
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Getting to hear and work on other people’s music and hopefully doing an even better job than they were expecting
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: How much do I charge
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: If I record a drum track in 1 hour, that’s 1 hours work. But it’s everything else that takes the most time. Setting up, mixing, editing etc…luckily I enjoy it (most of the time)
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: No questions really. I would just ask that they have a rough sketch of the song recorded to a metronome
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Research and make sure it’s the right gut person for the job
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Presuming there’s electricity… Phone (Music mostly) TV (Love movies 💀🎃) Laptop Guitar Drum Kit

A: Playing drums 25 years. Have been writing and recording music almost as long.

A: Metallica meets Dream Theater

A: Any song writer trying something different and doing it with energy
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Take breaks. Come back with fresh ears.

A: Rock Metal Synthwave
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I hope it’s playing what each song needs on drums to sound its best
